Chandra sees Rani - Rani Rashmoni
Harekrishna, a poor farmer, is forcefully asked by Ratna Thakur, a priest, to get his daughter Rani married off soon. The villagers suggest an alcoholic Rakhal as a prospective groom for Rani. Unable to control her anger, Rani comes out with an axe to defend her father. Ratna Thakur and the villagers get angry seeing Rani's audacity. Khemi, Rani's aunt, scolds and beats Rani for her actions. A landlord's son, Chandra's eyes meet Rani's by the river bank, and an attraction develops between them.
Chandra reaches Haru's place - Rani Rashmoni
Chandra gets stuck in the forest due to sudden storms. Jogmaya, Chandra's mother, gets scared learning from the widowed daughter-in-law, Anandamoyee, about Chandra’s absence from home. Meanwhile, on hearing the villagers’ plan of burning down a poor family’s house, Chandra decides to save them. Rakhal and the villagers start the fire on Ratna Thakur’s order as a serious warning to Harekrishna. Rani’s family panics in fear. Chandra later fights the miscreants to protect Harekrishna’s family.

Chandra falls in a trap in the forests laid out by some villagers. Khemi and Rani look for Chandra. Later, they find him and stay with him until he regains consciousness. Anandamoyee consoles Jogmaya. Thakumaa, Chandra's aunt, warns Pritram, Chandra's father, to ensure that Chandra returns home without being hurt. Rani cries seeing her brother's rude behaviour. Anandamoyee teases Chandra for smiling absentmindedly, and Chandra promises to secretly reveal the truth about his happiness later.
Rakhal plans to force Rani to get married - Rani Rashmoni
Chandra tells Anandamoyee that he feels strongly attracted to a girl named Rani, who he had met earlier, and Anandamoyee has fun teasing him. Meanwhile, Rakhal convinces Ram and Govinda to secretly get Rani married to him. Rakhal bribes Ram and Govinda with hopes of a new cloth shop that they can comfortably run instead of working hard in the fields. Later, Rani’s friend, Binti, lies and secretly brings Rani into the forest, where Rakhal has made all preparations to forcefully marry Rani.

Rani is forced by her brothers and Rakhal to understand that getting married to Rakhal is for her betterment. Khemi and Harekrishna get angry with Ram and Govinda for their thoughtless actions. Chandra cuts his fingers while being engrossed in playing music. Worried about Chandra’s growing restlessness for Rani, Anandamoyee tells Pritram and Jogmaya of their son's fondness for a girl. Pritram’s messenger visits Rani’s house with a prospective wedding proposal from a family in Kolkata.

Pritram is glad to learn about Chandra’s interest in getting married. Anandamoyee playfully annoys Chandra for always being lost in Rani’s thoughts and informs him of the messenger sent by Pritram to Rani’s house. Pritram decides to visit Rani himself and confirm talks about Chandra’s marriage with Rani. Pritram sees Rani serving food to a group of performers, who are hungry, and an image of Hindu Goddess Lakshmi runs in his mind. He makes up his mind to have Rani as his daughter-in-law.
