Vidya hails from a poor family but her wedding is fixed with Sagar, who belongs to a rich family. On the day of the wedding Vidya finds out that Sagar is mentally unstable.

Hema drags Vidya back home and berates her. As punishment, Hema goes to scald Kaushalya but Vidya promises her aunt that she will stay away from Raghav and his wife. Hema says that she will not punish Kaushalya and scalds Vidyas hand instead! Kaushalya apologises to her daughter for her mistake. On the other hand, the priest gives Raghav and Uma a list of the prospective brides. Uma sees a name struck off, but is still able to read Vidyas name. Meanwhile, Kaushalya falls ill in the middle of the night but her family refuse to hear Vidyas plea for help. Vidya escapes and goes to fetch medicines for her mother. Vidya meets the doctor who gives her the medicines. However, on her way back, she is confronted by Harsh and his goons. Harshs goon breaks the medicine bottle. Just then, she sees a truck approaching and seeks help from a boy who offers her a lift. The boy turns out to be Raghavs nephew Cheenu (Manish Naggdev). Harsh then sees Vidyas earring fallen. Cheenu and Vidya get talking, and she mentions that she had seen his cousin, Sagar, swimming. Vidya reaches home but is caught red-handed by Hema. Hema demands to know from Vidya where she had gone, so Kaushalya replies that she had gone to fetch medicines for her. However, Vidya has no medicine to show, so Hema drags her out of the house and calls out to the neighbours. Hema slanders her name. Just then, Harsh arrives there and says that Vidya had come to meet him.

Hema diverts the attention of Raghav and Uma, and gestures Vidya to leave. Raghav and Uma visit Harish and they ask Hema to bring Shalu. However, they are disappointed seeing Shalu with her loud make-up. Cheenu too signals to them that she is not the girl he had seen for Sagar. Shalu makes a fool of herself in front of them. When Shalu is asked to give tea for Uma, Shalu accidentally spills it on Umas sari. Uma heads to the kitchen but Vidya whos hiding there manages to escape. Later, she sees the red shawl that she had lost at the river bank hung on someones balcony and is surprised to see Sagar (Sharad Malhotra). Sagar tosses it at her. On the other hand, Raghav is leaving with Uma when he tells her that he wants to see Sagar settle with a nice girl so that he will not remain in Sindooras clutches. Just then, they see Vidya helping children with their lines in a mythological drama. However, when she sees them, she escapes. Uma hears the children call out Vidyas name and she recalls it scribbled in the list of eligible girls given by the priest. Raghav and Uma come to Harishs house and inform Kaushalya that they want Vidyas hand in marriage for their son Sagar.

Hema puts on a charade of being happy and congratulates Kaushalya. Raghav apologises to Shalu and says that even she will soon find a good groom. Later, as punishment, Hema goes to scald Vidyas face with a burnt log but Kaushalya warns Hema that it is her husbands house that they were living in! She cautions Hema not to inflict any more injustices on Vidya. A furious Hema pushes Kaushalya and Vidya, and Vidya falls near Raghavs feet. Raghav and Uma return to Kaushalyas house because Uma had forgotten her purse. Raghav warns Hema to bestow Vidya with the same respect that she would on a landlords son, and address her with dignity as `Choti Thakurien (Landlords wife). Raghav informs Kaushalya that the wedding will take place soon. When Kaushalya asks Raghav to seek Sagars opinion first, he assures her that nobody could disapprove of Vidya. Later at home, Vidya tells her mother that she is not deserving of becoming the wife of Raghavs younger son. She pleads with Raghav to reject her and asks him to get Shalu married to Sagar. Raghav tells Vidya that their match was the decision of God. Uma gives a letter to Vidya saying that her husband had written it to her because he would not be able to personally speak about the matter with her. Vidya asks Radha to read it because she is illiterate. However, in the process, one of the leaves of the letter falls in the river and the page gets smudged. Radha is only able to read the other page that asks Vidya to come to the temple in the evening if she agrees to the match. When Raghav and Uma see Vidya at the temple later, they are thrilled that Vidya has agreed to marry Sagar. Cheenu gives Vidya a jacket belonging to Sagar. Meanwhile, Kaushalya remembers Sagar as a child and how he would play with Vidya. On the other hand, a vengeful Hema goes to Harshs house. What is Hemas plan?

Harsh is surprised when Hema puts forth Vidyas wedding proposal to him! He cant believe that everyone, including Vidya, has agreed for Vidyas and his marriage. Harsh informs Hema that he will be going out of town but would return soon. On the other hand, Vidya thanks God for the happiness bestowed on her. Kaushalya asks Harish and Hema to lend her Rs. 100,000/- for the wedding expenses but they say they dont have the money. Hema suggests to her to mortgage the house, so Kaushalya agrees but asks Harish and her to keep it a secret from Vidya. Meanwhile, Kaushalya asks Vidya to return the jacket to Sagar. Raghav tells Uma about the consequences if their daughters get a whiff about Sagars wedding but she pacifies him. Uma has preparations to do for the wedding, so Vidya volunteers to stay back at their place with Raghav because he is unwell. Vidya goes near the car to keep Umas purse when Sagar asks for his jacket from Vidya. On the other hand, Harish gets the mortgage papers and asks Kaushalya to give her thumb impression on it. Kaushalya obliges. Raghav tells Vidya that he is planning to fire Harish and Hema but she asks him not. Vidya further says that if they were to relocate, then her mother will never be happy because her roots were here. An impressed Raghav tells Vidya that she is his daughter from now on. Hema tells Shalu how she had deceived Kaushalya into transferring the house in their name for Rs. 100,000/- Hema mentions that all they needed now was Vidyas thumb impression. Just then, Hema is shocked to see Kaushalya near the door.

Hema lies that they were discussing Vidyas wedding. She then tells Shalu that they will get the house and neither will Sagar marry Vidya! On the other hand, Raghav informs Vidya that there were a few members of his family whom she should know about. He starts talking about his eldest daughter, Sindoora and her husband Aniket. Just then Raghav receives a call from Sindoora, and he angrily tells her that come what may, Vidya will become his daughter-in-law, and he will not wait for her to return from London! Just then, he collapses and asks Vidya to get a specific medicine from the box. However, she is unable to read, so she goes up to him and says that she cannot read. She is shocked to see that he has passed out. However, he regains consciousness soon and has the tablet. Meanwhile, Cheenu puts his aunts concern to rest and assures Uma that Vidya had indeed read the letter and approved of Sagar for his simplicity. Vidya stays back with Raghav although it is very late at night. Raghav tells her that he is confident she will keep his family together even after he is gone. He is about to talk about Sagar when Uma and the others return home. Sagar talks to Vidya but she goes away coyly! On the other hand, Raghav tells Uma that they must get Sagar married at the earliest before Sindoora returns to India. Meanwhile, Sindoora (Kamiya Punjabi) and her sisters, (Mahua Himanshi Choudhary) and Chandra (Additi Shirwakar Malik), arrive in India.

Much to the chagrin of Hema and her family, Raghav informs Kaushalya that he desires that Vidya and Sagar get married the next day itself. Hema gets worried because Harsh is to return only two days later. Hema thinks about how to summon him to stop Vidyas marriage. Raghav takes Vidya to his ancestral temple and sees Sagar playing his guitar. Raghav asks Vidya to promise him never to leave Sagar. He thanks her for accepting Sagar without asking any questions. Cheenu informs Raghav that his daughters have already left from London. A worried Raghav says that they must get Vidya and Sagar married before his daughters reach Benares. Vidya gets emotional thinking about her last day in her native town of Benares and her home. When Vidya asks Kaushalya where she got the money for the wedding, Kaushalya lies that Harish and Hema had helped her. Hema comes just then and warns Kaushalya to get Vidyas thumb impression on the house documents. Raghav hopes that Sindoora does not reach Benares before the wedding. On the other hand, Sindoora tells her sisters that they have 3 hours to reach Benares. She vows never to let her fathers wish to get home a daughter-in-law ever be fulfilled!

Raghav asserts to a worried Uma that he will not fall ill tonight, on the occasion of Sagars wedding. Meanwhile, a hesitant Kaushalya asks Vidya to put her thumb impression on the property documents by lying to her that she will get monthly pension once she submits the papers. On the other hand, Sindoora and her sisters leave for Benares. During a pre-nuptial ceremony, the wicked Hema asks Vidya to write her husbands name with vermillion on the rice granules. Hema then asks her to also sing a song having her husbands name. Vidya and Kaushalya are stunned and upset. Shalu informs Raghav and Uma that Vidya cannot write Sagars name because she is illiterate. Hema and her family are jubilant while Raghav and Uma are shocked. Vidya tells Raghav that she always tried to tell him that she was not deserving of his son but he kept brushing her aside. Raghav tells Vidya that he approves of her the way she is. Uma and he get worried wondering whether Vidya knows the truth about Sagar but pray that Vidya has agreed only after knowing the truth. On the other hand, Hema informs her family that Harsh would be here soon to stall the wedding. Harsh who is stuck in a traffic jam wonders why Hema has summoned him. Sindoora too is stuck in the same traffic and gets furious when a cop informs her that it may take a long time to get to Benares because of a broken bridge. She gets out of the car and yells that she is Raghav Prataps daughter and will not let a village bumpkin, Vidya, marry her brother Sagar! Harsh, who is nearby, overhears and is shocked to realise the truth!

Sindoora gets inside her car and Harsh rushes towards her but the cop asks him to sit in his own vehicle. The cop then allows only Sindooras car to leave. Harsh fights with the cop and demands that he also be allowed to go, so the cop orders his men to put him in jail for assaulting him! Things turn worse for Harsh when he tries to bribe him, so the cop slaps him. Meanwhile, Cheenu asks Sagar whether he likes Vidya, so Sagar replies that he does because she is always smiling and also likes the water just as he does. On the other hand, Vidya tells Radha that she cant believe her good fortune about getting married into such a good and wealthy family. Shalu tells her mother that because Raghav and Uma accepted Vidya in spite of knowing she is illiterate, Sagar surely must be a boy of vices! When Kaushalya is all set to take the bride to the temple, Hema intervenes and says that widows attending weddings is considered inauspicious but Vidya asserts that she must accompany her. Uma arrives just then and supports Vidya. Hema and Shalu see Sagar for the first time and are surprised to see that he is so handsome. The wedding rituals begin, when it starts pouring heavily. Vidya and Sagar are performing the nuptial rites when Sagar stops midway and runs to enjoy the rains. Everyone is shocked! Hema tells Kaushalya that Sagar is a madman! Vidya is stunned!

People at the wedding hall leave and taunt that an illiterate girl like Vidya deserves a groom like Sagar! Raghav tries to explain but Vidya walks away. Radha blames herself for misinterpreting the letter and apologises to Vidya. Hema is delighted that the wedding did not take place and makes plans to get Shalu married to Sagar, for greed of wealth. On the other hand, Raghav regrets that Uma and he had not personally informed Vidya about Sagars condition. Uma suggests that they apologise to Vidya but just then, Sindoora turns up with her sisters. Sindoora accuses Uma of indeed being a stepmother because she had refused to heed her advice not to get her son, Sagar, married. Sindoora orders her father to pack his bags immediately because they will return to Delhi immediately! Kaushalya is devastated and says that they will demand an explanation from Raghav for the humiliation. Cheenu arrives then and says that his uncle had written about Sagars condition in a letter to her. Cheenu further says that Sagar had turned this way only 6 months back. He requests Vidya to meet his uncle just once, or Raghav would die with the guilt. Raghav gets worried seeing Sagar in a playful mood and wonders that who will marry him and look after him. Hema comes there and promises that Shalu will look after Sagar but Raghav rejects the proposal. Meanwhile, Sindoora and her sisters get curious why their father was still at the temple. On the other hand, Raghav is about to leave when Vidya comes to the temple. Raghav and Uma apologise to Vidya and say that they felt she was the right choice for Sagar because she would never leave by Sagars side. Raghav then asks her to start life afresh but Kaushalya demands to know who will marry Vidya now! Raghav breaks down before her. Vidya goes up to Sagar and promises him that never to leave him alone again. Raghav and Uma are thrilled!

Vidya tells Raghav that she will return with him as his daughter-in-law and never betray his trust. Raghav asks the priest to complete the remaining rituals but Sindoora arrives then and demands that the wedding rituals be stopped. However, Raghav asserts that he knows whats right for his son. An unrelenting Sindoora then drags Sagar away but Raghav slaps her! Sindoora gets furious with him for slapping her because of a girl who was not even his daughter-in-law yet! Raghav warns her not to create any more obstacles in Sagars wedding, or he would disown her! Sindoora walks away in a huff. Mahua subtly taunts Sindoora about her dwindling status in the family. She says that their father had insulted her in public because Vidya had cast a spell on him! Chandra worries about the consequences if the tide does not turn in their favour at home and if the truth about why they dont want to Sagar to get married is out in the open. Sindoora vows never to get her fathers wishes fulfilled. Raghav is happy that Sagar and Vidya have got married but worries about the impending storm awaiting him at home. Hema insists that Sagar and Vidya first come to her maternal house after the wedding. Kaushalya asks Vidya later why there were so many differences between the members of Raghavs family. Just then, they hear Sagar screaming when Shalu lights crackers. Shalu mocks Vidya about getting a husband as well as child! Vidya protects Sagar. Just then, Cheenu comes to take Vidya away. Vidya leaves her maternal home with a heavy heart. Raghav is excited about welcoming Vidya and asks Sindoora to dress up. Sindoora retorts that she does not want to welcome any stranger! She taunts that Sagar does not even know that he is married now! Raghav asks her to accept the truth about Sagars marriage. Just then, Sagar and Vidya arrive and Uma gives Vidya a warm traditional welcome, while Sindoora and her sisters watch her in contempt.

Vidya enters the house and seeks Sindooras blessings but she and her sisters walk away. Raghav pacifies her that its testing times for her and is sure that shell emerge victorious from the crisis. Vidya dreams about Sagar romancing her but she is shaken from her reverie when Sagar asks her to go out of the room because Sindoora had told him that brave boys stay alone. Vidya is shattered. After a while, Sagar opens the door and says that he will let her inside provided she reads him a story before sleep. Vidya hides the truth about her being illiterate by promising to tell Sagar another story. On the other hand, Sindoora and Raghav start arguing, so she says that the conflict can end if he does not bring Vidya to Delhi. Chandra and Mahua too give him an ultimatum to choose between Vidya and them. When Raghav remains silent, Sindoora and her sisters walk away. Raghav has a heart attack. At the same time, Vidya comes down the stairs but Sindoora stops her midway and blames her for her fathers condition. She drags Vidya and locks her in a room. However, once Raghav regains consciousness, he asks for Vidya, much to the ire of Sindoora and her sisters. Cheenu fetches her from the room but Sindoora warns Vidya not to dare move a step ahead!

Sindoora scolds Cheenu for bringing Vidya but just then Raghavs friend Dr. Sinha (Adarsh Gautam) says that Raghav would like to meet only Vidya, and takes her away. Raghav tells Vidya that he is happy to have got Sagar married to her before dying. He asks her to promise him that she will not let his family disintegrate and never leave Sagar. She promises. Raghav passes away. Everyone breaks down. Just then Sagar asks what happened to their father. Later, Chandra informs Dr. Sinha that Uma refuses to come out, so Vidya volunteers to talk to her. When Uma sees Vidya, she breaks down. Vidya asks Uma to attend Raghavs last rites. Sindoora and her sisters are surprised to see Vidya bring Uma. On the other hand, Hema and Harish stage a drama and tell Sindoora that Raghav died as soon as Vidya stepped into the house! Chandra and Mahua tell Dr. Sinha that Sagar will not light his fathers funeral pyre because he is afraid of fire, so Dr. Sinha requests Vidya to convince Sagar. Vidya agrees but Chandra and Mahua warn her not to. Just then, Sindoora asks them to let Vidya try talking to Sagar. Vidya goes to Sagar. Sindoora then tells her sisters that it is the best chance to teach Vidya a lesson!

Vidya requests Sagar to cremate his father but he runs away scared to Sindoora. Sindoora triumphantly asks Vidya whether she thinks she can always get things done her way! Sindoora then brings Sagar to the funeral site and Sagar panics seeing the priest light the log but she drags him and coerces him to light the funeral pyre of their father. Sagar quietly heeds Sindoora. Vidya looks at the pyre and wonders how she will fulfil such a huge responsibility that Raghav had entrusted on her. On the other hand, Sindoora promises her father to take Vidya out of Sagars and her familys life soon. Harish tells Sindoora that her father was very fond of this place, so Sindoora retorts that it is the same place that took his life away too. Sindoora takes Sagar in the car and when Vidya also heads towards it, Sindoora asserts that Vidya will not accompany them! Kaushalya begs Sindoora to take Vidya with her but she retorts that Vidya had destroyed her familys happiness, and was jinxed! Sagar too bids her goodbye. Vidya is devastated. Harish and Hema mock at Kaushalya about Vidyas wedding. Meanwhile, Sindoora reaches her home in Benares and tells a shocked Uma that Vidya did not want to spend her life with a madman, so she didnt come. Uma refuses to believe her, so Sindoora retorts that she is rectifying her fathers mistake! Uma asserts that she will give Vidya her rightful place in her house. Sindoora orders Sagar to go to the terrace and walk on the railing. Sagar obeys her. Uma begs him to come down. A desperate Uma relents and tells Sindoora that only her orders will be followed at home. Sindoora warns her to always remember this lesson or the next time, her mad son would also become an invalid!

Hema informs Vidya that Kaushalya had transferred the house in her name. Kaushalya replies that she had mortgaged the house, not sold it. Hema retorts that the house was now hers, and throws Kaushalya and Vidya out of the house. They seek refuge in Radhas house. Meanwhile, Sagar puts a garland around Raghavs photograph, so Sindoora warns Uma that it will always remind her that she is the mistress of the house now. Sindoora further says that it will also remind Uma that Vidya and she were responsible for Raghavs death! She accuses Uma of first taking her mother away and then her father! On the other hand, Radhas parents treat Vidya and Kaushalya with warmth. Vidya sees Radhas mother feeding her disabled husband. She tells Vidya that life is about being together through thick and thin with your life partner. The next morning, Hema is at the edge doing all the household chores, so Harish taunts her about throwing their two maids, Kaushalya and Vidya, out. Meanwhile, Vidya prays to God to help her out of the crisis. The priest at the temple tells her that a married womans right place is with her husband. Just then, Hema appears and begs at Vidya and Kaushalyas feet for forgiveness. She pleads with them to return. Kaushalya relents and asks Vidya to come home. However, Vidya replies that she will return home, but to the home where her husband lives. On the other hand, Sagar tells Uma that he prayed to God for everybodys happiness, so Uma asks him what he prayed for Vidya. Just then Sindoora comes, so Sagar runs away. Meanwhile, Kaushalya refuses to let her daughter go to a house where her sisters-in-law are so wicked. Vidya requests her to let her go to her husbands house and perform her duty as a wife.

Mahuas husband Kartik (Faisal Raza Khan) arrives in India and the couple have a minor tiff. Kartik is an incorrigible womaniser and even flirts with his sister-in-law Chandra. Just then, a stern Sindoora informs them that there was a condolence gathering the next day. Mahua informs Kartik that Sagar had married a village bumpkin. Chandra gives childrens clothes to Sagar brought by Kartik, and he wears them excitedly. Uma feels terrible at the way everyone mocks at Sagar. Cheenu assures her that Vidya will surely come to their house. Meanwhile, Vidya gets ready to leave for Delhi, and a shrewd Hema sends her husband along, with specific instructions. Harish leaves Vidya in the train and says that hell come back soon. However, the trains leaves and Harish triumphantly watches it go. He returns home and lies to Kaushalya that the train had left 5 minutes earlier. Kaushalya is sure that God will protect Vidya. Hema arrives then and asks her to start doing all the chores. Kaushalya at once realises their ploy. Meanwhile, Sindoora frightens Sagar about death and warns him to always listen to her. During the ceremony, the priest asks for Sagars wife to be seated next to Sagar. Everyone is taken aback. On the other hand, Vidya arrives at the railway station in Delhi but the chit that has Sagars address flies away!

Vidya manages to find the address chit. Meanwhile, when Raghavs doctor asks Uma where Vidya is, Sindoora replies that they had left her where she belonged. When Dr. Sinha tries to reason with her, she retorts that he is only wasting his time. The priest suggests to Sindoora that any other couple can sit for the ceremony, so Sindoora orders Kartik and Mahua to complete the formalities despite their protests. Sindoora looks at her fathers photograph and asserts that she will never let Vidya enter their house! Just then, the watchman informs her that Vidya had arrived. Uma, Cheenu and Sagar are happy. Sindoora and her sisters are displeased, while Kartik ogles her! Mahua taunts Vidya about getting lured by money and takes Sagar away. When Uma is about to give Vidya a traditional welcome, Sindoora warns her to stop because strangers were not welcomed. Sindoora cautions Uma that her son, Sagar, will decide whether Vidya will stay home or not. On the other hand, Mahua and Chandra brainwash Sagar into believing that Vidya had killed their father and had married him only for wealth. Mahua says that Vidya would harm everyone, including Sindoora. Meanwhile, Kaushalya is worried sick about Vidya but Radha pacifies her. On the other hand, Uma urges Sagar to allow Vidya to stay back and fulfil his fathers dying wish. However, Sagar declares that Vidya will not stay at home. He tells Uma that Vidya had killed his father. Uma denies it but Sindoora tells everyone that she had trapped her father for wealth and then killed him! Sindoora orders Vidya to get out of the house. Just then, Dr. Sinha arrives with a lawyer who declares that Raghav had willed his house to Vidya, and she also had an equal right over his inheritance. Dr. Sinha requests Vidya to sign the documents but she replies that she cannot because she is illiterate! Sindoora and her sisters are jubilant!

Sindoora and her sisters taunt Vidya about how an illiterate bumpkin like her will look after their fathers vast inheritance but Dr. Sinha requests Vidya to at least put her thumb impression on the documents. Uma too requests her to go ahead as it was her husbands dying wish. Vidya obliges, and Dr. Sinha says that nobody can remove her out of the house now. He asks Vidya to come to him any time she needed him. Uma defiantly tells Sindoora that even after Raghavs death, only his word would hold good at home. Vidya gets ready for the ceremony but Cheenu informs Uma that Sindoora and her sisters as well as Sagar had declined from coming. Vidya volunteers to pacify them and even succeeds. Kartik instigates Sindoora and her sisters to demand their right. Sindoora vows to remove Vidya from their house within a month by making her life a hell! Meanwhile, the rituals are completed, and the priest suggests that Vidya give away the money to them. Sindoora says that like every time, each priest will be given Rs. 11001/- However, the priests get furious when they see a measly amount of Rs. 11 being given away to them! They walk away angry. Sindoora blames Vidya and demands to know how her fathers soul would rest in peace!

Sindoora and her sisters accuse Vidya of stealing the money. They brainwash Sagar about it. Vidya pleads innocence but Sindoora berates her and warns her to reveal where the money is! Vidya places her hand over the burning lamp and swears that she has not taken the money. So Sindoora demands that her belongings be checked. Mahua places the money in Vidyas suitcase. Kartik sees Mahua join them later and realises her ploy. Chandra opens the door and the suitcase opens up. Because of the impact, the money inside the suitcase gets flung under the cupboard. Sindoora starts searching Vidyas suitcase vigorously but is shocked not to see the money anywhere. Even Mahua is surprised. Uma tells Vidya that she knows her husband could not be wrong in realising what a gem of a person she is! Later, Sindoora scolds Mahua for their plot getting foiled! Just then, she sees Sagar and pretends to get emotional. Sindoora says that Vidya had got her humiliated in front of the priests, and then shrewdly hidden the money to prove her a liar! Sagar promises to spy on Vidya and a triumphant Sindoora permits him to. Meanwhile, an upset Vidya realises suddenly that she has not spoken to her mother from the time she had arrived. She sees the phone but is ignorant about how to use it. Kartik comes there and volunteers to fulfil every need of hers! He takes her hand and teaches her to operate the instrument. Vidya feels extremely uncomfortable but just then, Sagar appears. When Kartik leaves, she seeks Sagars help to dial the number. However, he dials a wrong number. Sagar then tells Vidya that he will never help her because she is wicked and had killed his father!

Vidya prays to God to let her speak to her mother. Just then, Kaushalya phones and Vidya is happy. Vidya lies that everyone is treating her well and she is very happy. Kaushalya too lies that Hema has been looking after her well. The man at the telephone booth disconnects the phone and demands Rs.40 from Kaushalya. On the other hand, while Sagar is playing, the ball goes under the shelf, so Vidya goes to fetch it but gets the bundle of money instead! Uma is surprised. Sagar holds Vidyas hand and shouts to Sindoora that he has caught the thief! Uma tells Sindoora that Vidya had got the money suddenly but Sagar denies it. Vidya pleads innocence. Sagar threatens Vidya that he will not talk to her if she does not apologise to Sindoora, so Vidya obliges. Sagar forces her to also say that she will never steal again. After Vidya goes away, Sindoora praises him. Vidya overhears Sindoora saying that Mahuas foolishness was not revealed and Vidya had got humiliated too because of Sagar. Sindoora sees Vidya and accuses her of eavesdropping. Vidya asks her why she hates her so much that she had left her deceased fathers religious ceremony incomplete only to humiliate her. Sindoora vows vengeance for Vidyas last statement! Meanwhile, Hema warns Kaushalya not to step out of the house or inform Vidya about anything. Hema reminds her that Harsh was still around! On the other hand, Cheenu regrets that he was not able to stand by Vidya like a dutiful brother-in-law. Vidya tells Uma and him that she is confident about winning over her sisters-in-law someday despite being a village bumpkin. Uma asks Vidya to go to the kitchen and cook for the first time. Vidya promises Sindoora to keep her tastes in mind. Meanwhile, Mahua tells Kartik that she would like to get pregnant, so he pretends to be worried about getting a child like Sagar. Mahua is about to say how Sagar turned out to be intellectually deficient but stops short. Later, Mahua praises Sindoora for having Sagar wrapped around her finger. Chandra says that Sagar can even give up his life for her. Sindoora promises never to let anyone come close to him.

Vidya prepares `kheer (a sweet dish) and asks the cook to keep stirring while she returns in some time. Chandra comes to the kitchen just then and sends the cook away. She puts a bottle of salt in it! Dinner is served and Sagar tastes the `kheer but spits it out! Sindoora taunts Uma about what a bad cook her daughter-in-law is. To humiliate Vidya further, Sindoora gives a Rs. 5 coin as a token of appreciation and tells Vidya that this is what shes worth! Vidya feels terrible, so Uma suggests to her to become Sagars friend first. Uma asks Sagar to let Vidya stay in his room because she is his wife. Sagar throws her out and tells Uma that Sindoora had mentioned that Vidya is wicked! Sindoora demands to know from Uma why she was forcing Sagar to stay with Vidya when he does not want to! She then drags Vidya and asks her to stay in an unused, smelly room. Sindooras sisters taunt Vidya and push her inside the dark room. Uma goes to open the door but Sindoora warns her not to come in her way because shed turn Sagar totally against her! Later at night, Uma suggests to Sagar to at least make friends with Vidya. Sindoora comes to the room just then and warns Uma that Sagar will do only what she tells him! Uma leaves the room and Sindoora feeds different medicine from the one prescribed to Sagar. She tells him that unlike his mother, she wanted him to recover soon! When Sagar falls asleep, Sindoora comes to his room with Mahua and says that she can never forget whose son he is! Sindoora asserts that nobody, including Vidya or her God, can protect him. On the other hand, Vidya is happy to see a photo frame of Lord Shiva strewn across in the room. Vidya tells Lord Shiva that there must be a reason behind her coming to this room and says that she is not afraid of facing any storm now because He is with her.

Vidya starts cleaning the room, and Kartik turns up there claiming that he wants to help her. Kartik tries to flirt with her but Cheenu arrives just then. Kartik goes away and when Vidya is cleaning the cupboard, a carton full of Sagars photographs falls. Cheenu sees the photographs and tells Vidya that Sagar had returned from the US and was full of life, ready to take over his fathers business. Sagar had asked Sindoora to rest, after having toiled hard for her house and their fathers business. However, Sagars accident 6 months back had destroyed it all. Meanwhile, Sindoora and her sisters make arrangements for people to come and see Vidya for the first time. Sindoora tells Mahua in front of Uma that Vidya would always remember this ceremony! A worried Uma informs Vidya about it but Vidya assures her that everything will be fine. At the ceremony, the women take a look at the new bride for the first time. Uma gives Vidya jewellery, and she gives Uma a photo frame of Raghav and her. The lecherous Kartik too wants to take a look, so Cheenu asks him to only look at the brides reflection in water! Kartik ogles at Vidya. Mahua, Chandra and Sindoora brag about the expensive gifts they give Vidya. Sindoora asks Vidya about their return gifts. When Vidya obliges, the three sisters taunt Vidya about how cheap her gifts are. One of the women taunts Uma that she had got a shrewd daughter-in-law! Sindoora gives away Vidyas gifts to the maid, as a distressed Vidya looks on.

Vidya tells her sisters-in-law that she cannot afford more expensive gifts. Sindoora and her sisters suddenly announce that Vidya will cook lunch for all of them within 20 minutes! Cheenu and the cook help Vidya, and the sisters are surprised to see lunch ready! Sindoora and her sisters humiliate Vidya by saying that the food is too oily and spicy. However, the guests relish every dish prepared by Vidya. One of the women then taunts Vidya that having a village girl as a daughter-in-law gets you a good cook as well as good maid! Vidya replies that one does not become a maid by cooking in ones own house! A furious Sindoora orders Vidya to apologise to the guest right away! Later, Vidya asks God why she gets punished for every truth spoken. Just then, Kartik praises her food and gives her a sari but Vidya suggests that he give it to his wife. On the other hand, Mahua and Chandra assure Sindoora that Vidya will not be able to tolerate her atrocities for even a month! Sagar tells Sindoora that Vidya had prepared wonderful food and mocks Sindoora about not being able to cook! Sindoora sternly warns Sagar to keep away from Vidya. Sagar agrees. Uma tells Cheenu to convince Sagar to give the anklets to Vidya. Cheenu mentions to Sagar about it, and promises that, in return, he would get a pistol from Vidya. Sagar refuses saying that Vidya is a bad girl but Cheenu convinces him to give it to her. Sagar goes happily trotting with the anklets and Chandra sees him. Keeping his promise to Sindoora not to speak with Vidya, he only gestures to her and puts the anklets around her feet. Vidya is touched. Sindoora and her sisters march in. Sindoora is enraged and goes to slap Sagar for getting Vidya a gift but Vidya comes in the way and gets slapped instead.

Sindoora orders Sagar to go to his room and then taunts Vidya that despite trying to prove herself as a dutiful wife, she got what she rightly deserved! Uma praises Vidya for standing by Sagar in front of Sindoora. Meanwhile, Cheenu dials the shopkeepers number in Benares for Vidya but she is told that her mother is not to be seen from many days, and she had not even paid Rs. 40. Vidya is upset. On the other hand, the shopkeeper meets Kaushalya and says that she must repay him by tomorrow. She asks Hema for money but Hema refuses. Kaushalya sees some change fall from Harishs shirt, so Shalu screams that Kaushalya is a thief. Hema scolds Kaushalya, and Kaushalya actually finds some more money later in the shirt. She decides to use it to phone Vidya. Kaushalya phones Vidya and Sagar answers the phone. Sagar tells Kaushalya how Vidya got scolded and even slapped. Vidya snatches the phone and lies that she is fine. However, Sindoora takes the phone and asks Kaushalya to take Vidya away if she is so worried because Vidya is not needed there! Vidya pleads with Sindoora and her sisters never to let her mother know the truth because she cannot bear to see her mother cry. Uma asks Sindoora to understand the feelings of a daughter as she still pined for her mother. Uma suddenly stops short. Sindoora warns her never to get emotional with her again about her mother! Uma then narrates to Vidya how the girls mother had turned mentally unstable and poisoned Sindooras mind with negative opinions about Raghav. That he was responsible for Sindooras mothers condition. Uma says that Raghavs first wife had hung herself to death. On the other hand, Sindoora tells her sisters that loneliness and neglect from their father had got the better of their mother and she had died. She informs them how he had remarried Uma immediately who was a distant cousin of their mother. When Mahua reminds Sindoora that Dr. Sinha always maintained that their mothers illness was her own doing, Sindoora retorts that Dr. Sinha had always supported their father! While Sindoora blames Uma for trapping her father, Uma informs Vidya that Raghav and she had got married for the sake of the children. Uma says that she is seeking revenge from her by using Sagar. Sindoora asserts to her sisters that when Uma was not able to take Sagar away from her, then Vidya certainly will not be able to! Vidya promises Uma that Sagar will return to her someday. Later, Uma prays to God that what Vidya said turns out to true, and Vidya and Sagar come close. Vidya and Sagar collide into each other and are held spellbound in the moment.
