Jhansi Ki Rani is a Hindi historical drama television series starring Ulka Gupta, Kratika Sengar, Sameer Dharmadhikari and Amit Pachori. At the age of fourteen, Manu, daughter of a Pandit, marries the King of Jhansi. As she grow ups, she despises the British rule in India and takes the form of Kranti Guru to combat it.

In the exiled Peshwa Bajirao II's Bithur court, Tatya Tope, a warrior, trains the Peshwa's adopted son Nana Saheb fencing. At the Peshwa's welfarist event, the popular deference to British troops pains Manu, Nana's childhood pal. Her priestly dad Moropant Tambe informs her about the East India Company's officials' habitual brutal conduct. As Mr Manson, the Bithur collector, reveals the tax policy to the hapless Peshwa at his durbar, a martial Manu beats the Kanpur commissioner's racist nephew.

Vahini Saheb, the Peshwa's sister-in-law, locks up Manu and orders her to memorise 25 'shlokas' as punishment for not apologising to the racist Geoff. Manu not only memorises them but also grasps their meanings, which unsettles Vahini. At the Peshwa's durbar, when Geoff refuses to apologise for having battered a groom, Manu refrains from saying sorry to him, with which the Peshwa agrees. Later, the Peshwa overhears Vahini taunting Moropant and urging him to make Manu marry or else leave Bithur.

The Peshwa mollifies Vahini Saheb, who’s displeased about Manu living in Bithur. Later, after Manu blasts a part of the palace’s wall with her special arrow, a shocked Vahini Saheb, who is suspicious of her intentions, informs Peshwa and Moropant that Manu could be a big threat for them and the palace. The British, on seeing the arrows, assume a revolt is in the offing. Meanwhile, while practising, Nana gets badly injured after being dragged by his horse.

Nana doesn't return from his practice session with Manu. The court's residents worry about his well-being and the peshwaship's stability. Manu mounts her horse Pavan and returns to Bithur with a badly wounded Nana. Though she explains that he wasn't able to control his horse well due to which he fell off the cliff, Maina and Vahini castigate her. At the Peshwa's durbar, Mr Manson doubts his loyalty and sees Manu's arrow's deadliness. But he is amenable at first to wheel and deal with the Peshwa.

Moropant orders Manu not to practise with Tatya the art of using double-edged swords. He explains to her the British threats to the peshwaship, urges her to domesticate herself and hands her over to Vahini's tutelage. Later, as a 'Tula Daan' and havan take place after Nana's recuperation, Tatya reveals that Manu had saved Nana. As Tatya's 'dakshina', an elated Peshwa allows Manu to join military practice in the 'akhaada'. But Manu is heartbroken when Nana is chosen over her to ride an elephant.

The Peshwa, who hears Manu bickering with Nana over his right to ride an elephant, urges them to unite to rout the British. He makes Nana give his ancestral royal dagger to Manu as a mark of their unbreakable friendship. An austere priest predicts a queenly future for Manu, which elates Moropant. Later, on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, as the Peshwa, his kin and close aides immerse themselves in Ganga Ghat's waters, a Hindu theological argument ensues between the Peshwa and Acharya Vadrayan.

Manu's informed scriptural replies stun Vadrayan, whose aide informs him about her family. Christina, the wife of Kanpur's new commissioner Mr Moreland, is in awe of Manu. Meanwhile, Gangadhar Rao Newalkar, the king of Jhansi, some of whose bi-religious relatives are his frenemies, is told by his aide that the Britons have crushed the Chirgaon ruler's revolt. Manson and Wilson inform the Peshwa that Manu's replies may have destabilised Bithur's law and order and tell him not to visit Ganga Ghat.

A priest advises the Peshwa not to go to Kanpur for his daughter Indu's 'shagun' ceremony as the British forces have amassed there. As Gangadhar distributes items for popular welfare prior to leaving for Kanpur to execute a religious vow, a sniper's arrow pierces his chest. The assailant, who sports Company attire, evades royal capture and makes the king's aides suspect that the assassin is a Briton. Later, Gangadhar's loyalists deem that he needs an heir and a caring wife to stabilise his rule.

The British officials, who regard Gangadhar as their puppet, discuss the ramifications of the attack on him. Gangadhar’s minister says that the king must beget an heir soon. Manu attacks the girl whom Nana is smitten by, thinking that she’s a British spy. But she proves her innocence. Moropant informs Manu about the conspiratorial natures of Lachchu Bai, Krishna Rao, Janki Bai, Ali Bahadur and Sakhu Bai, who comprise King Gangadhar's extended family.

The Peshwa and his entourage go to Kanpur to meet Indu's to-be husband's family for a premarital 'shagun' ceremony. Though Indu is barred from seeing her future husband by Vahini as it is believed to be inauspicious, she, Manu and all the female attendants of the peshwaship participate in a song-and-dance activity. However, as Manu attempts to make Indu meet her future spouse, they end up witnessing the arrival of King Gangadhar, who is en route to Kanpur for strategic and religious reasons.
