Sai Tamhankar has become a household name, owing to the spectacular work she has done over the years. The popular Marathi earned recognition through her roles in serials such as Agni Shiksha, Sathi Re and Kasturi as well as films like Family Katta, Tu Hi Re, Vazandar etc. She is currently seen in ZEE5’S original Marathi series Date With Saie where the actress plays herself.

Though Sai is primarily known for her work in Marathi cinema, she had left a mark in Bollywood too. The actress was recently seen in film Love Sonia, where she played Anjali.  She made her Bollywood debut with Subhash Ghai’s 2008 thriller Black and White and was later seen in films such as Ghajini and Hunterrr.  

2. A childhood dream 

In an interview, Sai had revealed that she has always wanted to become an actor. The actress was born in Sangli, Maharashtra and was always part of theatre in school. Her mother has always been a housewife and her father was in the Merchant Navy, who passed away in 2010. Sai did her schooling from Sarvarkar Prathishthan in Sangli and earned a degree in B. Com from Commerce College of Sangli.   She earned popularity in an inter-college drama festival that she won. It was then that Sai started considering pursuing acting as her profession and shifted to Mumbai in 2004. 

3. Getting through the grind

It’s hard to make it big without godfathers in the industry and Sai is no exception. The actress auditioned for several roles, while working in the hotel management sector. She got her first big break with Marathi serial Hya Gojirvanya Gharat.

4. Marriage and the secret ceremony  

Sai met Amey Gosavi, a VFX artist and the two became close friends. It was a year later that they started dating and became serious. They were in a live-in relationship since 2011 and decided to tie the knot by 2012. The actress’s wedding was a hush-hush affair and not much was reported about it. Sai and Amey got engaged and married in a secret ceremony. The marriage was conducted in a court first, followed by Marathi rituals.   Only close relatives and friends were invited to the wedding. The ceremony was followed by a quit visit to Sangli, and a reception in Pune, since Amey hails from the city.   The couple’s fairytale love story however didn’t last for long as the two called it quits, a few years down the line. Just like Sai’s wedding, the details of her divorce too are under wraps.  

5. When Sai made headlines

Sai became the first Marathi actress to don a bikini onscreen in No Entry, Pudhe Dhoka Ahey. It was a revolutionary step for the actress but wasn’t received well by certain sections of society that protested her bold look.
