Always Wanted To Be An Actress

Bhumi Pednekar has always had highly supportive and caring parents that encouraged her to follow their dreams. She had been an enormous Bollywood fan from an early age and performed to Bollywood songs.

At the tender age of 16, Bhumi knew that she was meant for the starlights and announced her being an actress. Her parents showed their support by enrolling her into Subhash Ghai Acting School the following year. To have a safety net, they asked her to pursue B.Com through correspondence.

From Casting To Getting Casted

Bhumi Pednekar came to know through her friends that Yash Raj Films were looking for an assistant casting director. Without wasting any time, she grabbed the opportunity and worked for Abhimanyu Ray. She had a good eye in casting, which is evident from movies like Chak de! India, Teen Patti, and Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year.

She used to send out reference auditions to people coming from outside Mumbai. When working with Shanoo Sharma, she did a mock audition for the girls who went for the role in Dum Laga ke Haisha. It turned out to be her first audition when the directors thought of giving her the part. The journey of auditions was two months long when she was finally chosen from at least 100 shortlisted girls.

The Excitement of Her First Release

Bhumi Pednekar confesses that she watched her first movie every day at local cinemas for the first 45 days of its screening. She watched it a hundred times in that duration, and her director and other team members also used to accompany her. The film was a massive success, and they had the time of their lives watching it with an audience.

With all the success that rolled into her life, she never forgot her humble middle-class roots. Bhumi used her first big salary for the movie to pay off the tuition of her sister's education.

Transformation As An Actor

From her debut movie itself, she has shown that she's in the industry to showcase her versatility, and she puts in the required efforts. Bhumi is a fitness-conscious person.

As a child, she wasn't allowed to eat a lot of chocolates and fizzy drinks. Her ideal choice of meal is home-cooked food. To play a character of a woman with significant weight, she had to put on quite a lot of weight.

After the film, the fitness freak returned to her glamour self within five months through her strict diet and regime.

To play the role of Chandro Tomar, a brilliant sharpshooter from Haryana, she practised shooting with her co-star Taapsee Pannu. They both dedicated themselves to become good at the sport and spent a lot of time with the sisters.
