Indravadhan saves a drowning Gayatri and offers her his coat. When Gayatri reaches home, she finds her mother to be angry. Gayatri has no answers for her mother's questions and she stands still. Furthermore, Gayatri's sister-in-law increases her fears when they question her about the coat that she is wearing. On the other hand, Indravadhan meets the man responsible to have put tax on water and upon his inquiry, Indravadhan learns that it is his uncle and the Englishman that have laid taxes on water. To cope with the loss of fortune faced, he marries Gayatri Seth (Drashti Dhami), the daughter of the state's biggest moneylender, Gopal Seth. This not only causes a scandal, but sets off a chain of drama events within the family and the royal servants, impacting them to change forever. At the heart of this drama is the relationship between Ranaji, who is still in love with his dead wife, and a commoner, Gayatri who now discovers that becoming a Rani does not necessarily have a fairy tale ending.
