Agga Bai Sasubai: Abhijeet’s Viewpoint About House Husbands Needs Everyone’s Attention

Zee Marathi’s Agga Bai Sasubai has been praised by the audiences for its progressive content. Not only is it relatable but it is also highly refreshing in its take. It focusses on the love story of a widow Asawari and a celebrity chef Abhijeet, who have recently gotten remarried. The show’s approach is progressive as it attempts to break stigmas around remarriages, working women, housewives, etc. Asawari’s daughter-in-law Shubhra is shown to be a forward-thinking woman who always strives to empower Asawari. Abhijeet too is a woke man, who is known to break stereotypes like a boss.

In the recent episode, we saw that Abhijeet has shifted to Asawari’s place to help Shubhra. He has pledged to teach Soham a lesson for misbehaving with his wife. Abhijeet and Shubhra together try to annoy Soham by making him do certain tasks. Recently, Abhijeet made him go for a strenuous run. Soham noticed how Abhijeet is trying to mess with him and hence planned to trouble him by targetting Asawari. He along with Pradnya cornered Asawari and made her realise that Abhijeet is being ridiculed being a househusband.

While Asawari is feeling tensed by Abhijeet’s presence in the house, the latter finds her fears ridiculous. He tries to reason with Asawari saying that he doesn’t mind being called a househusband and staying with his wife’s in-laws. Abhijeet further discusses the topic of househusbands with Asawari and attempts to eradicate the stigma surrounding this concept.

He says that being called a househusband is not derogatory. He adds that it’s their life and they need to live it on their own terms. He further says that people will call them names and will ridicule them sometimes, but that doesn’t mean they listen to their taunts. Abhijeet disregards the fact that he’s being called a househusband because he doesn’t mind being referred to as one. Abhijeet also mentions that contrary to what people say, he takes pride in being called a househusband.

Abhijeet, through his dialogue with Asawari, makes it clear that househusbands shouldn’t be looked down upon and the way society perceives them needs to change. Abhijeet has just shifted to Asawari’s house because he wanted to help Shubhra. Even though he is not a househusband per se, he’s being made fun of. It’s often assumed that a woman is supposed to take care of the house and husbands are supposed to work to a living. However, this is a socially accepted gender stereotype that needs to be disregarded and Abhijeet makes that clear through his conversation with Asawari.

The thought process of people needs to change and we feel that Abhijeet has been instrumental in taking a step towards the much-needed evolution.
