Here is taking a look at why Prince Harry and Princess Meghan, after their interview with Oprah Winfrey, remind us of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.

You might have been seeing news of Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle talking about their hard time in the royal family in an interview with Oprah Winfrey. In the said interview, they opened up about the racism that Meghan had to face, her mental suffering, and all the events that had led them to step down from the family’s monarchy in January 2020. People in India, especially the fans of Bollywood, can’t help but compare the scenario with the one that they have watched in Karan Johar’s film, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.

Watch the trailer of ZEE5’s latest show, The Married Woman, here:

Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham is an iconic film and is still fresh in the memory of its fans and other audiences, even after 20 years. Everyone remembers Amitabh Bachchan’s Yashvardhan Raichand and his parampara. His stringent rules and the disagreement of accepting Anjali (Kajol) as his daughter-in-law, drove Shah Rukh Khan’s character, Rahul Raichand away from his family. The situation of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, is a lot similar.

Since the time Prince Harry had announced his engagement to Meghan Markle, who was also an American actress, there had been a lot of dissent from the British media about her ethnicity. The Prince also revealed that the Royal family never spoke against those media tabloids and did not show support for Meghan. This made Meghan begin feeling unaccepted in the family.

In Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (or as everyone has fondly called it, K3G), after Anjali was not accepted by the Yash Raichand, Rahul felt really bad and along with Anjali, left the family. He left Delhi and moved to London, to make a new life for himself and Anjali. Similarly, Prince Harry and Meghan also stepped down from the Royal family in January 2020 and decided to begin their new life by themselves.

Besides Yashvardhan Raichand’s rigid parampara, another thing we remember is his dominance, and the one sentence to assert that dominance: “Keh diya na… bas, keh diya.” After Rahul married against Yash Raichand’s will and left the house, breaking the family’s traditions, his father was extremely upset with him. So much that he never even thought of trying to find where his son is and how he is. Prince Harry shared in his interview with Oprah Winfrey that his father, Prince Charles, was also very upset with him and they aren’t very cordial currently.

Also, Harry talked about the loving bond that he shared with his mother, Princess Diana, and said that above everything else, his mother would have only wanted him to be happy. Similarly, Rahul’s mother, Nandini Raichand (Jaya Bachchan) also loved him a lot and above all else, always wanted to see him happy.

Harry also mentioned his fondness towards his big brother, Prince William and while they aren’t on talking terms currently, he would always love him with all his heart. Much like Rahul and Rohan who shared a very adorable bond.

Not to forget how Anjali and Rahul were blessed with a baby boy and Meghan and Harry had their first son, Archie in 2019. Speaking of which, the couple also announced in the interview that Meghan is soon going to give birth to a baby girl. Hopefully with her birth, the Royal family will want to mend severed ties and repair the family relationships, just like a Bollywood film with a happy ending.
