Like Nawab in Mai Hero Boll Raha Hu, Bhaskar Shetty in Mum Bhai was also a powerful character, who dared to go against his own ‘Godfather’.
Parth Samthaan and Arsalan Goni starrer show, Mai Hero Boll Raha Hu, recently premiered on ZEE5. Based on the lives of gangsters from Mumbai in the ‘90s, the show narrates the story of how an upcoming gangster goes against the more powerful one, in order to achieve his goals. Similarly, in 2020, we also got a show on ZEE5, which revolved around the underworld of Mumbai in the 90s – Mum Bhai. Both these shows featured characters, who locked horns with their ‘Godfathers’ to make it big in their lives.
Mum Bhai, starring Angad Bedi and Sikander Kher, is a series that revolves around the life of an encounter specialist of Mumbai, Bhaskar Shetty (Angad Bedi). When Bhaskar was a little kid, he had begun showing his vigilante side, and to be able to stay safe from the cops, he was helped by the don, Rama Shetty (Sikander Kher). Rama Shetty became Bhaskar’s unofficial godfather, and because of his support, was Bhaskar able to get successful and become a cop.
Soon, Bhaskar becomes one of the greatest encounter specialists of the city and the centre of media attention. He also goes up against some of the biggest gangsters and their gangs, to eradicate crime from his city. This journey of his ultimately brings him face-to-face with Rama Shetty, who is the leader of some of the biggest criminal gangs in the city. Even though Bhaskar had vowed never to kill Rama since he had helped him during his childhood, one minor misunderstanding between the two makes him point his gun at Rama Shetty.
Similar to Bhaskar’s is the story of Nawab (Parth Samthaan), in Mai Hero Boll Raha Hu. The show revolves around the story of Nawab, and how he rose to rule the underworld of Mumbai. Nawab was a simple guy from Bareilly, who had started a small business with his father. However, due to a tragic event, he loses his father and enters the world of crime. When he makes his way into the underworld, he is taken in by Lala (Arslan Goni) and his elder brother, Mastaan (Chandan Roy Sanyal).
Nawab respects Lala and works well with him, until one day he gets into the clash of life with him. Seeing Nawab’s success, Mastaan hands him the reins of Mumbai’s underworld, making Lala jealous. But what really put him off is when Nawab and Lala fall in love with the same girl, Laila (Patralekhaa), and Nawab vows to win her over, no matter what. Their love for Laila makes Lala take up his arms against Nawab, and even Nawab reluctantly decides to go against Lala, who had once mentored him when he had entered the underworld.
