What was the worst comment you received on social media?
“After the Sushant Singh Rajput and Rhea Chakraborty incident, there was a lot of flak when I posted something about patriarchy, in Rhea’s support. A lot of people wrote some nasty things, made comments about my habits, and as a woman, tried to malign and slut-shame me, which I didn’t take seriously. But someone made a comment about my theatre. They had said that they used to love watching me on stage and now will never come and see me again. I thought that was really ridiculous,” she shared.

Mountains or beaches
Food or sex?
What was your initial reaction when you came to know A Table For Two Season 2 is beginning?
“I was super excited. This show has been my baby in so many ways, and I don’t think many people are doing shows like this – a chat show which is fun, relevant, very in-depth and also very intimate. The world is really small, and people now have more access to celebrities, whether because of social media or the distance between celebs and fans become lesser. I think in that sense, there are still perceptions we hold about celebrities because our industry creates an image – whether on social media or on the big screen – there is an image of an actor, a star, that people have in their minds, which is not easy to penetrate. So I think a show like this really gets them (actors) talking, intimate, and casual, where they can be themselves, have fun, and people can see them as they are.”
She also said, “The first time around it was focussed on some of the biggest TV actors of India and I think that made a huge splash. The people have associated the actors with the characters they have been seeing them as, for years, but (this show displayed that) they are so much more than that. Because it did so well in the first season, we decided that we are going to come back with a big bang, and become more relevant and get people from the OTT and film space as well. So I think that’s really what’s there to look forward to – a lot of people that you see in web shows, creating waves, are gonna be in season 2. This is the first time we are going to see all these people so openly and so candidly and say so much about themselves.”
Your top 3 favourite guests from A Table For Two?
To this, Ira Dubey said, “I love them all and many of them are my friends and people that I have worked with and people whose work I admire. But off the top of my head – Rasika Duggal is someone I absolutely adore as a person and as an actor, Namit Das is a friend and I adore him, too, Jaideep Ahlawat – I was bowled over by him – he is a wonderful human being and actor, Pratik Gandhi had a strong impact on me, as an actor and a person, and also Shreya Dhanwanthary – slowly I might just name them all, I love them all.”
Who has been the most spontaneous and crazy guest?
“Aparshakti Khurana, Rithvik Dhanjani, and Jim Sarbh, they are all mad. There has been a lot of great energy on the show. In terms of girls, Shreya Dhanwanthary and Maanvi Gagroo – they are so full of energy,” Ira Dubey answered.

Any fun anecdotes from the show?
“What really surprised me is how the whole ‘star system’ is changing, and how grounded, down to earth, focused, and committed the actors really are. The celebrities tell me how they are in their free time, about their families, how they cook or go for a drive, and it’s small things like these that stay with me,” she said.
How do you manage to get these stars to get comfortable to reveal their well-hidden secrets?
“I think you really have to be interested. As simple as that. Be interested when they’re telling you their story. Make them want to chat and talk to you and trust you. Also, I think it’s important that people have a platform where they can express themselves. This idea of expressing yourself freely has come to the fore because of social media – that has already given everyone a platform and a voice. Here, what we are doing, is giving celebrities and stars a safe space where they can talk about things that they want to talk about. People have talked about mental health, feminism, sexuality, industry, casting couch, etc. It is just that they need a safe space to talk about those things, they have a voice as well. And in a rapid-fire situation, it gets easier to spontaneously answer and say what is there in your heart.”
Three reasons to watch A Table For Two Season 2.
“Firstly, all your biggest OTT stars are there – you can see them as you’ve never seen them before. Second, I am hosting it. And it’s going to be mad fun. You can watch it with your whole family and you’re going to want to come back for more,” Ira Dubey answered.
