Farhan Akhtar Starrer Toofan Skips Theatrical Release, To Premiere On OTT
The makers of Farhan Akhtar starrer Toofan have opted for a direct OTT release of the film. Toofan will be exclusively premiering on Amazon Prime Video.
Amid the Covid-19 restrictions, most of the films were directly released on OTT platforms. However, the ease in lockdown emerged as good news for the Bollywood fans as theatres were reopened all across the nation. While many films are releasing on the big screens, the makers of Farhan Akhtar starrer Toofan have planned to release the film on the OTT platform Amazon Prime.
Reports state that Toofan was earlier set to have a theatrical release in September 2020. However, due to the pandemic restrictions, the release was postponed. And as per the recent updates, the film will be releasing exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. A source close to the film’s development revealed that the decision of an OTT release came out as a surprise for everyone. However, director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and producers are firm upon its OTT release.
Citing the reasons behind this decision, the source revealed that the “theatre business has just resumed” and it will definitely take a while for the working to be “normal”. And hence releasing the film in an “uncertain atmosphere” like this will be “detrimental” in terms of business. Also, the OTT release will assure the filmmaker and producers of the “covering of expenses”.
For those unaware, Farhan will be portraying the role of a boxer in Toofan. The film will also feature Mrunal Thakur and Paresh Rawal in pivotal roles. Also, interestingly Toofan will be the filmmaker-actor’s second collaboration for a sports drama. Earlier, the duo worked together for the 2013 biographical film Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. The film was well-appreciated by critics as well as the masses.
