“I am self-made and I am very proud of it. The changed Tarini and I are very similar that way,” says Krystle on being similar to her character.

Krystle D’souza is hands down one of the most sought-after names in the Indian television industry. The actress boasts of some popular daily soaps in her kitty, including Zee TV show Brahmarakshas. 12 years after her first television stint, Krystle makes her big digital debut with ZEE5 Original and ALTBalaji Original series Fittrat. In a departure from her regular outings, the starlet headlines the web show as Tarini Bisht – a gold-medalist turned gold digger. The trailer and music videos have pretty much established that Fittrat stars Krystle in a never-seen-before light, but the celebrity says there is more to Tarini than what meets the eye.

Read on for excerpts from our exclusive interview with Krystle D’souza about Fittrat.

Q. How excited or nervous are you to make your web debut with a character you have never played before?

I am very excited. It’s a new journey for me as well. It’s a character in the grey space, it’s neither negative nor positive. It was enjoyable because it’s something I haven’t done before – I have never played a gold digger before and been honest about it. Tarini Bisht is today’s girl who dresses and speaks in a modern way, smokes, drinks, doesn’t care what the world thinks about her. She is very unlike the other characters I have played before.

Q. We are sure you must have been offered scripts before Fittrat, what prompted you to choose this one as your launchpad?

Purely the storyline. I didn’t know it was going to be shot on such a grand scale. I didn’t know who my co-stars were going to be. I didn’t know my director would be such an amazing person. I just thought to myself that this is something you have never done before, go for it. I asked my mom once if she will be okay, she said beta if you’d be okay, I will be okay, it’s a job. So, I thought if my mom can understand, I am sure others can too. Because my mom is very jazbaati.

The turning point to do a web show was the script. The scripts offered earlier were never so powerful. A dearth of good scripts kept me away for so long from the web. If I am offered a good script, I will do it whether it’s a theatre play or a film or a TV show, anywhere.

Q. Content on the web has been bold and edgy. Would you call Fittrat a bold watch?

It is, for me and my fans. Because they have always seen me in a saree, salwar kameez in a kitchen, with a husband. It’s not bold compared to a lot of other web series on OTT platforms. It’s more about emotions and relationships. For me, three words that describe my show – friendship, obsession, and betrayal. There are so many layers of emotions that boldness is not the major factor, it’s a part of it, but it’s not the major factor.

Q. Tarini is chasing the riches in Fittrat. How similar or different are you from her in real life?

I am my own hero. I don’t remember the last time I took money from home or had anything funded by anyone. I live the best life. I travel, I work, I buy myself a lot of luxury items. ” In terms of relationships, I value them a little more than Tarini. For me, love is everything. Without that, I feel you will be lost in this world, with all the money but nothing to spend on. I love my family, I respect my family. Work is my worship, and I do it with all my heart. So, I work hard and then play hard.

Q. Tell us something about Tarini that we haven’t seen in the teasers so far.

We have seen Tarini being all about money, money, and money in the videos. But she is a very emotional person when it comes to relationships, she values them. Her relationships are also number one. As much as she wants to get rich, she will never compromise on relationships. So, whether it’s love or friendship, anything. Rest everything else is out there. She turns from a gold medallist to a gold digger only to discover gold toh mere andar hai.

Fittrat starts streaming on ZEE5 from 18 October 2019 onwards.
