A biography of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar, Ek Mahanayak on ZEE5 shows his struggles and his resolute attitude to change the evil traditions of the society.

Previously, we saw how after Kamna’s death, her younger sister  Madhvi was forced to marry and despite Bhim’s (Aayudh Bhanushali) several attempts to stop the child marriage, no heed was paid to him as he belonged to a lower caste. This TV show highlights the deep-rooted patriarchy and conservative attitude that prevents the girl child from completing her education and forces her into marriage at a very tender age. Madhvi’s own parents treat her like a liability.

Take a look into ZEE5‘s Ek Mahanayak here:

Ram Ji, on the other hand, encourages Bhim to study for all the answers to his questions lie in those books. Bhim feels helpless for not being able to aid Madhvi at such a crucial juncture of his life. He guides Bhim and tells him to devote his life to texts and knowledge which will ultimately pave the path for justice and truth. Ram Ji motivates Bhim to study. By doing so, he can fight these evil customs legally as well as by creating awareness about it.

There is no end to the sufferings that women have to undergo. When Madhvi’s husband dies, she is once again put through the hardships that a widow has to go through. Despite being a kid, her head is shaved off, she is coerced to eat boiled food and live a secluded life. However, it is Bhim and is lower caste that is blamed for Madhvi’s fate.

Under such stringent terms of living like a widow, Madhvi even tries to commit suicide, but Bhim and his friends save her. When other women treat her with contempt while fetching water, Bhim comes to her rescue and digs a well for her secretly.

Bhim continues to strive for knowledge and asks his guru to teach him the do’s and don’ts of society so that when he grows up, he can stand for human rights and their wellbeing. Pertinent questions like the dilemma of right and wrong and societal attitude are raised throughout the series, which reflects upon the importance of human welfare.
