The train scene of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge has become iconic over the years – here are 7 films that recreated the scene, like Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Jab We Met, and more.

Even after almost 26 years of its release, the Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol starrer Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, remains an iconic film in the Hindi film industry. Besides its love story that is still loved by its audience, the film’s climax has also become one of the most celebrated scenes in Bollywood – the famous train scene where Kajol runs to board the train while SRK gives her his hand. But besides DDLJ, several other Bollywood movies have had this iconic scene in them, maybe as a tribute to this Aditya Chopra directorial. Here’s recalling seven such times when the DDLJ train scene was recreated in films.

Rohit Shetty recreated the DDLJ train scene in this action-comedy starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone in a hilarious way. The scene introduced Deepika’s character in the film, and after a brief sweet moment of getting to see SRK’s Rahul and Deepika’s Meena recreate the scene, we got to see its funny take, when Rahul, apart from Meena, relived the scene with four gangsters too.

Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari, the rom-com starring Manoj Bajpayee, Diljit Dosanjh, and Fatima Sana Shaikh also took a funny dig at the train scene. In the climax, when Tulsi (Fatima) and Mangal (Manoj Bajpayee) were trying to stop Suraj (Diljit) from returning to his village, they managed to catch him in the departing train, giving us a full DDLJ moment.

Jab We Met

Trains played a very important part in Jab We Met and at places, also served as a metaphor for the leading couple’s lives. In the movie, after Aditya (Shahid Kapoor) manages to find Geet (Kareena Kapoor) and tries to bring her back to her cheerful self, he helps her get on a moving train because he knows she does not like missing any trains.

After Shah Rukh Khan, it is Deepika Padukone who got to be a part of this scene twice. In Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani, when Bunny (Ranbir Kapoor) is trying to convince Naina (Deepika) to leave behind her fears and get onto the adventurous journey, is when we get to see this iconic train scene.

Half Girlfriend

While Half Girlfriend did not have anyone trying to get onboard the running train, the film did recreate a scene in a different way – Madhav (Arjun Kapoor) is trying to convey his emotions to Riya (Shraddha Kapoor) and trying her to get to stay, while she is on the train’s door, departing from him.

Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan

Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan brought a new wave of love story in Hindi cinema, as it revolved around a gay couple fighting the societal norms to be able to live together. While the film was trying to establish a base for new-age cinema, it also decided to recreate the signature DDLJ train scene to achieve that, with Jitendra Kumar and Ayushmann Khurrana.

This rib-tickling comedy also recreated the DDLJ train scene with all hilarity – the scene is when Sonakshi Sinha and Ajay Devgn meet, and she is trying to ask him to help her on the moving train.
