Nagarjuna gets emotional as he dresses up like father Akkineni Nageswara Rao

Today, September 20, is the 98th birth anniversary of the legendary actor Akkineni Nageswar Rao (ANR). And son -actor, producer, and BB Telugu host – Nagarjuna Akkineni took to social media to pay a heartfelt tribute to his father.

Nagarjuna Akkineni posted a video of him dressed in the traditional ‘Dasara Bullodu’ attire popularized by ANR in the 1970s. Nagarjuna also flaunts ANR’s wristwatch, navaratna mala, and ring in the touching video, saying that they make him feel like his father is always around with him. For the watch, he said, “His favorite watch is my favorite too”, which invoked a rush of emotions in the audience.

An ode to father

Nagarjuna never skips an opportunity to show his affection for ANR. The actor confessed to guest Ram Charan on a Sunday’s episode of Bigg Boss Telugu 5 how he became emotional when he had to touch his father ANR’s feet for a sequence in a movie. The Dada Saheb Phalke award-winning actor, Akkineni Nageswar Rao, passed away due to cancer at the age of 90 in 2014. He has been the face of the Telugu film industry for decades, alongside the actor and former Chief Minister of united Andhra Pradesh, Nandamuri Taraka Rao. 

Besides his monumental work in Indian cinema, ANR has also featured on Lakshmi Manchu’s ‘Lakshmi Talk Show’ and Jayaprada’s ‘Jayapradam’ TV shows. The actor, who has appeared in over 255 films, is well known for his roles in Majnu, Devadasu, Prem Nagar, Premabhishekam, Maya Bazar, Mooga Manasulu, and many others. Manam, his last film, starred his son Nagarjuna and two grandchildren, Naga Chaitanya and Akhil Akkineni. 

Works in the pipeline

Meanwhile, Nagarjun will next be seen on the big screens in his upcoming movie Bangarraju. It is being advertised as a family-friendly film featuring romance and emotions. Nagarjuna and Naga Chaitanya, the renowned father-son duo who earlier featured together in Manam, are back. Since it is a prequel to the hit Soggade Chinni Nayana, this production has a lot riding on it.
