Richa Chadda

Actress and Model

A Bold Actress

Richa Chadha is an actress that has made a name for herself, playing bold and eccentric characters. Her character choices range from subdued (Masaan) to playing powerful women on screen. Richa, beyond acting, is an activist at heart, fighting for causes that she believes in. In an industry that thrives on people playing nice, she is saying it like it is, and we love her honesty.

Richa Wasn’t Always That Bold

You will constantly hear about Richa’s bold stances or being part of the controversy over something she said. It gives her the air of a woman who lives life on her own rules. However, you might be surprised to know that Richa, by her admission, was a huge pushover. Chadha used to find it extremely difficult to stand up to people, and they took advantage of it.

As Richa recalled, she used to be pushed around and would cry over it for a week. Her major character changed around the time of Masaan when she overcame this personality flaw. Now she’s much more comfortable and confident to stand up for herself.

Stereotyping Much

Bollywood loves stereotyping actresses for roles, and she was no exception to it. Richa Chadha played the character of Nagma Khatoon in Gangs of Wasseypur from a young to an older woman. It was an incredible performance that proved to be the breakthrough role for her.

After that, she kept on getting similar roles, and one casting assistant even called her to audition for the part of Hritikh Roshan’s mother. Richa, in complete disbelief, gave an earful to the casting director for hiring such morons. It is a bizarre experience that makes us laugh to this day.

Defamation Cases

Richa Chadha hates trolls and feels strongly against people who try to defame her. To protect her image and brand, she has filed defamation lawsuits against people.

An actor had accused filmmaker Anurag Kashyap of raping her in 2013. She, however, dragged Richa’s name into the whole matter, and that angered her. She immediately filed a defamation lawsuit against the individual and ended up winning the case in court. The accused gave an apology letter to Chadha and removed all the defamatory posts from social media. Richa said she was elated by the results.

Richa has also openly criticized people, whether it is from the political or cinema sphere. She now has even quit Twitter and deleted the app after getting sick of the toxicity.

Solar Project

Richa is not just an intellectual activist but takes it to a practical level. She is a big supporter of renewable energy and has supported environmental conservationism.

The story goes that her aunt ran a charitable school in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, for 20 years. However, the problem of power cuts proved to be a huge problem for the school. Richa decided to take matters into her own hands by setting up a solar project for the school. It will ensure that the operation of the school will go smoothly.

We praise and respect Richa’s efforts to use her wealth to help the kids in need.

Suffered From Bulimia

Bulimia is a serious eating disorder where a person binge eats foods and then vomits them to stay skinny. It is an extremely life-threatening disease that has serious lifelong effects. Richa Chadha discussed this in her TED talk, where she talked about how the societal pressures got to her. The constant pressure of the limelight industry evaporated her confidence and made her feel unworthy. She wants to shed light on how eating disorders are a serious issue in the entertainment industry.

People Are Intimidated by Her

Richa Chadha plays characters that are extremely intimidating and straightforward. Whether it is Dolly from Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! or Bholi Punjaban from Fukrey, She can shut anyone down with just one look and a snap of a finger. Richa, however, finds that people too often confuse her with the character and feel intimidated. In real life, she is much more sweet, polite, and bubbly.

Richa Chadha is one of the best character actresses we have in the industry. She boldly lives life and is a strong independent woman. Our only complaint with her is that we don’t get enough of her on our screens. Richa Chadha is an actress that feels underutilized by Bollywood, and that needs to change ASAP.
