Anupriya reveals to Kalyani that she is possessed by a goddess, which causes violent behaviour and requires that she be chained. The villagers assemble at the Deshmukh house for a ‘darshan’ of the goddess in Anupriya, who dances, possessed and wild. Kalyani helps her get back to her senses, but Ahilya and the others disapprove of her intervention. Kalyani explains to Ahilya that Anupriya’s behaviour is due to a fit and not a possession. Later, some villagers try to kill Kalyani in retaliation.
