Even though foreign locations lure us during the holidays, it’s the earthy smell of your hometown that drags you towards it. Amongst the many holiday destinations in the state, Konkan continues to remain an absolute favourite owing to its scenic landscapes and picturesque beaches. We are aware that many of you might have missed going to Konkan this year considering the lockdown restrictions. But don’t you worry! Here’s a list of 5 films on ZEE5 that’ll help you relive the authentic Konkan experience visually and that too, from the comfort of your homes.

Let’s begin the list with the film Killa directed by Avinash Arun. It’s a coming-of-age tale based on the life of a small kid named Chinmay who moves into a small town in Konkan along with his mother. The child is taken aback by the changes happening in his life and tries to find answers during his stay in the coastal village. The film is beautifully shot through Chinmay’s perspective and his idea of Konkan. The serene locations shown in the film like the ruined fort of Vijaydurga and the pristine beach of Guhagar are tempting, to say the least. Killa features Amruta Subhash, Archit Deodhar, and Parth Bhalerao who make an impact with their performances in the film.

2. Haapus

Haapus is a comedy drama starring Subodh Bhave, Shivaji Satam, Makarand Anaspure, Madhura Velankar, and Pushkar Shrotri. This film deals with a subject that is quite close to the hearts of anyone who loves Konkan and that is mangoes. The story revolves around a typical joint family living in Konkan. The eldest son of the family dreams of expanding their business of cultivating and exporting mangoes. However, he faces opposition from the head of the family Anna who is against the very idea of this business. You can watch the film here.

3. Timepass 2

Timepass 2 is yet another film that was shot in exotic locations of Konkan. The film is the sequel to the previous blockbuster film Timepass directed by Ravi Jadhav. The story picks off from where it ended as Dagdu (Priyadarshan Jadhav) goes on a journey to Kudal in Konkan to find his childhood love Prajakta (Priya Bapat). Since it’s a love story, majority portion of the song sequences have been shot on the virgin beaches of Konkan which are an absolute visual treat for anyone yearning a sight of the beautiful coastline. 4. Kaksparsh

Directed by Mahesh Manjrekar, Kaksparsh is an intense period drama that sheds light on some of the evil practices that widows had to go through during the pre-Independence era. The film is set against the backdrop of a small town in Konkan. The dark brooding locations of Paalshet and Guhagar shown in the film offer us a premonition that the drama is about to intensify in the later half. Things do pick up the pace when the protagonist Uma has to suffer the torture of her in-laws after the death of her husband. 5. Sundar Majhe Ghar

Starring Vandana Gupte, Dilip Prabhavalkar, and Rahul Mehendale, Sundar Majhe Ghar is a happy family story. The plot revolves around Pallavi who is born in a joint family in a scenic coastal village in Konkan. Her dreams are shaped by the values incorporated into her by her family. Since Pallavi has been raised in Konkan, she can’t think of living of anywhere but in the dreamy little village.
