Ekta Kapoor’s emotional web series Mentalhood, streaming on ZEE5, is directed by Karishma Kohli, and showcases the real hardships of mothers and their journeys on the path of motherhood. The original series features Karisma Kapoor, Dino Morea, Shilpa Shukla, Shruti Seth, Sandhya Mridul, and Tillotama Shome in pivotal roles.

From the first three episodes, we could tell that the series is not just entertaining, but also gives us insights about some of the most important people in our lives. It was amazing to see Bollywood’s Lolo aka Karisma Kapoor back in action, doing exceptional work as Meira Sharma. Her delightful screen presence makes you root for her. Meira is a housewife and a mother of three from Kanpur who recently shifted to Mumbai. She gets involved in a group of SoBo mommies and shares her struggles with them.

Handsome hunk Dino Morea has made his comeback in this web show and has received praise for his performance. Sandhya Mridul, Shilpa Shukla, and Shruti Seth also add their own unique flavours to the show. This amalgamation of flavours is what gives audiences reason to watch the show.

Tillotama Shome plays the role of Preity who is a Punjabi mom of two naughty boys. She stays with her husband and brother-in-law who are misogynists and the reason why her kids are spoilt. Then there is Diksha (Shruti Seth) who is a New Age, gluten-denouncing yoga instructor. Diksha is separated from her husband and stays with her daughter. Next is AJo (Sandhya Mridul) aka Momzilla, who is a hoity-toity mom who loves to control everything. She has an arch-rival Namrata (Shilpa Shukla), who is a successful businesswoman and has a daughter named Shaista. Stay-at-home dad Aakash (Dino Morea) is the eye candy in their group of IG moms.

The story deals with issues like bad marriages, ugly divorces, chhole bhature versus healthy food, bullying in school, domestic violence, and much more. In the show, audiences will witness the budding friendship between Meira and Aakash which will lead to jealousy for Sanjay Suri (Meira’s husband). It will be interesting to see if Meira and Aakash’s friendship turns into an extramarital affair.

The series will give you an experience you have never witnessed before. By the end of it, the show gives you a reality check about a mom’s life, which is not at all easy. The web show is engaging and totally worth binge-watching. The series is not only entertaining, but also presents viewers with the harsh reality of broken homes, domestic violence, bullying, materialism, fake happiness, lavish international schools, and much more. Mentalhood encourages mothers to let their child be. The show also promotes important lessons such as the fact that cooking should not be restricted to any particular gender.

As compared to the the daily drama of saas-bahu shows, this emotional web series is a must-watch for modern mothers and their kids. Mentalhood is a much-needed story, which will make them proud of being a mother and value their journey of motherhood. Needless to say, we would 100% recommend watching the series now on ZEE5.
