Kaali 2, the ZEE5 Original series, is an action-packed thriller about the titular character, played by actor Paoli Dam, who races against time and all odds to save her son’s life. Kaali risks her own life when she turns to hair-raising crime in order to secure the money she needs for her son’s surgery that her own meagre salary will never provide. All of the scenes in Kaali 2 were shot in real locations as opposed to an artificial studio set up, in order to give it that authentic vibe of Kolkata’s seedy underbelly. When we first come face to face with Jing Liang, the fearsome drug lord played by Abhishek Banerjee he is locked up in a jail cell at a police station in Kolkata. He has been captured, and yet he never loses his ominous composure. He mutters cryptically under his breath with the air of one who is hiding a foolproof trump card under his sleeve when the police are around. This, coupled with the damp and dark environment of the jail cell, makes for a chilling scene.

When Kaali secures the precious half note that much of the plot hinges on, to hand over to Dilip Bhai as part of a deal, she loses it for a minute as a traffic policeman pockets it. She does not know what to do – face Dilip Bhai’s wrath and risk her son’s safety, or retrieve it. However, when Dilip Bhai realises that the cop has kept it, he is quick to strike him down after he denies that he has it. Even Kaali is shocked at this abrupt move, which leaves us winded for a good moment!

Kaali has been forced to make a dangerous deal with the police, where she has agreed to serve as the lure for Jing Liang. Jing Liang wants to bring Kaali down at all costs, and seeing her, he will rise to the bait and get captured by the police. This scene, shot in a dark underground plot of land, will have you glued to the screen in suspense!

When we meet Swapan, another underworld drug kingpin played by Chandan Roy Sanyal who is also Jing Liang’s arch rival, it is at an abandoned underground parking lot after Kaali has just managed to escape several bullets by the skin of her teeth. She was being used as bait by the police to lure Jing Liang back into their grasp, and the plan failed because of Swapan and his gang. We see an alliance between these conflicting parties, and the atmosphere, although very dark, is charged with energy!

An epic showdown with Kaali, Swapan, Jing Liang, and the police including Aniket (Rahul Banerjee) and Officer Manvi Gupta (Vidya Malavade) ensues in a scene at the end that was shot in a creepy abandoned leather factory. In a moment of truth, Kaali and Officer Gupta come face to face with each other. Officer Gupta has been determined to nab Kaali for a very long time, and Kaali is determined to survive and save her son. Who finally prevails? Find out by watching the series now!
