1. Self-respect and self-love

Essayed by Tanvi Dogra, Swati Singh is an ardent devotee of the Indian goddess by the same name on &TV’s religious daily-soap Santoshi Maa Sunayein Vrat Kathayein. Against all odds, she strives to be of a woman of wisdom and good conscience. Her husband Indresh Singh, portrayed by Ashish Kadian, is always in awe of her kindness and compassion in a cruel world. Despite being treated unjustly, she holds her ground and slowly brings everyone on the path. Here are some of Swati’s traits that we need to inculcate in ourselves:

But before, watch the latest episode here:

1. Self-respect and self-love

Even when no one supports her, Swati has got her own back! She stands up for herself even though people misunderstand her to be selfish. Since the time she married Indresh, her in-laws have insulted her left, right and centre. But when it crossed her threshold, she packed her bags and left the house along with her husband to make a new home. She takes care of her physical as well as mental health!

2. Respect for others

Swati doesn’t judge very quickly. She respects everyone equally but also ensures that she is not encouraging misbehaviour. Wanting to win a place in everyone’s heart, she is making efforts to cook for her rigid father-in-law Singhasan Singh. The man who used to throw away the plate if served by Swati, ate the meal and even liked it but didn’t appreciate. Swati’s respect isn’t greedy to gain it back!

3. Unconditional love

Swati loves Indresh beyond measure! When they got married against his family’s will, Swati never put a condition before Indresh that her in-laws should accept her with open arms. Swati could find multiple reasons to leave Indresh and go, but she chose to stand by his side always. The vows that they took at their wedding, she consciously abides by! Swati also makes it a point to make Indresh feel loved and valued. She never blames him for the torture that his family instils upon them!

4. Sensitivity and vulnerability

Sensitivity is rare in a world that is too cool to care! Swati doesn’t shy away from shedding tears when she needs to. Being true to her feelings, she emotes and expressed openly to Indresh. At times, when she is vulnerable, she allows herself to be. She takes pride in wearing her heart on her sleeve, even though Singhasan, Rinki and Lovely mistake it for weakness. She feels for others and understands their pain, just like she did for her mother-in-law Gunti Devi!

5. Ask for forgiveness and forgive others

Swati can never let the sun set without asking for forgiveness if she has hurt someone intentionally or unintentionally! When Sunita Devi, a relative, was insulted by Singhasan because of Swati, she apologized to her even though it wasn’t her fault. She believes that saying sorry doesn’t belittle us. With a kind heart, she forgives those who realize their misdoings. When an attacker was under Polomi’s spell, she let him go, understanding that it’s not his fault.

6. See the positive in everything and everyone

Amidst all the hardships of poverty and unacceptance, Swati never fails to see the positive in everything and everyone. When Indresh is angry with his father, Swati makes him realize that Singhasan is not a cruel man but just upset about the distance between him and his younger son. There was an incident wherein she was attacked by knives by Polomi Devi through a vendor. But she saw that he is a poor and humble man who wouldn’t do anything on purpose!

7. Intolerance of injustice

As much as she is kind and compassionate, Swati is also very clear about right and wrong. She raises her voice against injustice and makes her intolerance known to the offenders. When Singhasan displayed his misogynistic behaviour towards her own wife Gunti, Swati defended her as well as the entire womankind. She declared that no woman should be forced to follow her husbands’ rules blindly. With equality as the foundation stone, she dreams to build a better and just world!
