Veteran Actor Raj Kapoor Reveals Which Were His Favourite Films In This Rare Unseen Interview

In a rarely seen Raj Kapoor interview, the legendary actor talks about his favourite movies and the reason behind it.

The Kapoor family is one of the oldest and most famous celebrity families in the industry. Starting from Prithviraj Kapoor, the Kapoor clan made its way into the industry. As Prithviraj Kapoor shifted to the Prithvi Theatre group, his son Raj Kapoor took forward his legacy and ended up being known as “the greatest showman of Indian cinema”. The veteran actor earned multiple accolades, including three National Film Awards, 11 Filmfare Awards, the Padma Bhushan as well as the highest film honour in India, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. The actor has worked in over 75 films, but which of those were his favourites? Read on to find out.

 

Relating films with kids

In this Raj Kapoor throwback interview, when the actor was asked about his films and which would be his favourite, he was quoted reciting a Punjabi proverb that translates as “A mother can bear seven children in her womb, but can’t decide their fate.” He added that she gives birth to all the seven kids, loves them equally, but can’t deal out their luck for them. The actor also added that each one has their own destiny and fate. Relating it to his movies the actor claimed that all of them are his movies, so how could he choose one.

Favourite films

Later the actor adds that some films have their own magic and might work great, while some others don’t. He again compared films with kids and said, that while one child becomes successful and the other is left behind, a mother automatically develops an attachment towards it. He claims that similarly, movies like Mera Naam Joker and Jagte Raho that didn’t work that well with the audience have become his favourite.

The iconic actor calls these films his “two special children” as he feels they might have had some limps or some weaknesses because of which it didn’t work out with the audience. However, he also mentions that probably these pictures were so extraordinary, that people couldn’t understand the film’s depth and hence it didn’t work at the time.
