On Valentine’s Day, we are revisiting one of the most heartfelt love stories. Here’s why we think Geetha Govindam is a classic.

One love story that has won many hearts recently, is the Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna starrer Geetha Govindam. However, it is not your regular love story and changes the usual norms of a romantic saga in more ways than one. Although the protagonists do end up getting married in the end, the journey that they go through up until then is what makes the story very unique.
Watch Rashmika’s performance on the Geetha Govindam number, Inkem Inkem Inkem Kavale right here!
Take, for starters, the fact that Vijay’s character Govind, who respects women and believes in commitment is yet somehow tagged as a pervert because of an accident where he kisses Geetha. It is one of the few movies that acknowledge the fact that consent is an important thing.
Up until now, in plenty of romantic films, the heroines are unable to resist falling for the ‘bad boys’, at times the ones who have harassed them, stalked them and what not? However, Geetha Govindam is very close to reality in that sense. Geetha keeps resenting Govindam until she finds out that Govind wasn’t at fault and the kiss was actually an accident. When Geetha tells her brother about the accidental kiss, instead of putting the blame on her, they support her. Much refreshing!
When Geetha finally falls in love with Govind, he is oblivious to the fact and this leads to a long-drawn separation. When Govind is asked to marry Geetha, he thinks that Geetha would not be happy and hence declines it. At every point, Govind is very respectful of Geetha and her decisions, which isn’t common to find on screen. The way he treats and respects Geetha, sets realistic bars even off-screen for couples, making this movie even more memorable!
