Television actress Reem Shaikh, known for her stint on Zee TV show Tujhse Hai Raabta, will be seen playing the youngest-ever Nobel Prize winner Malala Yousafzai in upcoming biopic Gul Makai. Based on the life of the Pakistan-born activist, the movie has been directed by Amjad Khan and written by Bhaswati Chakrabarty. Scheduled to be released on 31 January 2020, the film gets its title from the pseudonym used by Malala for her blog. In 2009, she wrote a blog about her life during the Taliban occupation of Swat. The trailer of Gul Makai was recently released by the makers.

The video opens to Reem starring as Malala, while Atul Kulkarni plays Malala’s father. Named after an Afghan icon, Malala lives in the valley which is under the Taliban rule. Mukesh Rishi essays the leader of the Taliban who enforces rules like men should keep a beard at all times, women should confine themselves to their homes and no girl child will attend school. Malala, supported by her father, emphasizes everyone in the valley to stand up to injustice and stresses in her speech, “One child, one teacher, one book and one pen can change the world!” Late Om Puri is also seen making an appearance in the film which also stars Divya Dutta, Pankaj Tripathi amongst others.
