We explore a few reasons that made Solvathellam Unmai audiences favourite.

It’s Empowering

Solvathellam Unmai was one of the most empowering reality shows one may have come across. The primary reason behind the success of the show was the connect it had with the audience. Unlike other reality shows, this one invited guests, who aren’t great celebrities but commoners. People, who shared their stories on this show, taught us to be strong and never give up, explaining that struggle is part of life. It also gave us all a reason to celebrate and be thankful for our lives.

Raises Awareness

Solvathellam Unmai provided a platform for inspiring stories to reach the masses. Another reason for the show being a colossal hit in India was that it raised awareness and educated the people about the injustices happening around. Solvathellam Unmai served as the door one could knock on when facing issues like being trapped in abusive marriages or drug abuse or cheating, among others.

Viral Dialogue

It is a known fact that Zee Tamil’s Solvathellam Unmai is considered to be one of the most controversial reality shows on television. The show also gave birth to several viral videos after Lakshmy Ramakrishnan casually says ‘Ennamma Ippadi Panreengalemaa’ to one of the guests on her show. The phrase was parodied in the TV show Adhu Idhu Edhu, which then went on to became famous and people started making TikToks of the same. Many came to watch the show after the videos went viral, kicking the TRPs up.

Inspiring Hosts

From director Lakshmy to actor-choreographer Sudha Chandran, Solvathellam Unmai saw strong female personalities as hosts. Yes, the hosts too had inspiring stories of themselves to share with us. Like, Sudha Chandran, who has an amputated leg, and is pretty huge inspiration even today as she never let her accident and injury define her. In fact, she not only moved on from that untoward incident but also went on to take up dancing as a professional career.

For the uninitiated, Solvathellam Unmai was first hosted by Nirmala Periyasamy but she was then replaced by Lakshmy. And the second season of the controversial reality show was hosted by actor-dancer Sudha Chandran. However, Lakshmy returned to host the show for the third and fourth season. And if you want to witness the reality of life, then Solvathellam Unmai is a must-watch and is currently streaming on ZEE5.
