Curtis penned this special message for Scarlett Johansson as part of Time’s 100 Most Influential People of 2021

Amidst the ongoing legal battle between Black Widow actress Scarlett Johansson and Disney, the actress has found a new but strong supporter.  Scarlett Johansson has received support from legendary film star Jamie Lee Curtis. The 62-year-old veteran actress in a special message that she penned for Scarlett Johansson as part of Time’s 100 Most Influential People of 2021, called the actress ‘mama bear’.

“I recently witnessed her own the screen as the Black Widow, a powerful figure who manipulates (emphasis on man) women to fight for him,” Curtis said in the special note. “And then I watched her clever response to a real-life manipulation (same emphasis) when she lodged a breach-of-contract lawsuit against the studio, arguing that the studio’s move to release the film simultaneously in cinemas and on streaming caused her significant pay losses.

The strong mama bear

Jamie Lee Curtis favoured Scarlett Johansson in her case against Disney in a letter published on Wednesday. ‘Mama bear,’ said Curtis to the Black Widow actress. “Whether as a conscience assassin, an emotional center actor, or a strong mother who has just given birth to her second child, the message is clear: Don’t f**k with this mama bear,” Curtis remarked.

Jamie Lee Curtis revealed her ‘kinship’ with Scarlett Johansson, stating she “was born on my birthday in the year I was married,” in addition to the Disney case.

The murkier lawsuit

Scarlett Johansson alleged that Disney broke its promise by releasing Black Widow on Disney+ on July 9, 2021, the same day it was released in theatres. Scarlett Johansson has filed a lawsuit against Disney over a financial disagreement over the distribution of her standalone film Black Widow. Scarlett argues that she is losing money since the film was not given an exclusive theatrical release, but rather a joint release that included both cinemas and Disney+ Premier Access.

Elizabeth Olsen, Johansson’s Marvel co-star, recently backed her for standing up to Disney, calling her “tough” and describing her reaction to the news as, “I was like, ‘good for you Scarlett.”

Scarlett Johansson is a famous American actress and singer. In 2018 and 2019, she was the top paid actress in the world, and she had landed on Forbes’ Superstar 100 list multiple times.
