Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 25th Anniversary Special: The Journey Until Now

India’s favourite musical reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa completes 25 years on May 24, 2020. The hit show has given the Indian singing sphere several sensational voices like Shreya Goshal, Ranjeet Rajwada, Kamal Khan, among others. To mark this special occasion, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Keralam family is preparing for a day-long live performance in the form of a Facebook Liveathon concert. In this spectacular event, you will witness electrifying performances from your favourite participants as well as the judges.

The oldest running reality show on Indian TV, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa started its journey in 1995 and, in no time, it became a favourite of Indian music lovers across the country.

The first episode aired on 1 May 1995 and was hosted by Sonu Nigam. In the year 2000, the show was hosted by sarod-playing Bangash brothers, Amaan Ali and Ayaan Ali, sons of sarod-player Amjad Ali Khan. From 2002, playback singer Shaan started hosting the show. Until 2005, the show stuck to the traditional format wherein experts in the field of music would judge the contestants and score them.

This format changed with the advent of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2005 which introduced the judges as mentors of different teams and scoring was primarily dependent on public voting. After Shaan quit hosting the show, the show was hosted by many others like Purab Kohli, Manish Paul, Karan Singh Rathore, Archana Jani, Vipul Roy, Jay Soni and even kids Dhairya Sorecha and Afsha Musani. The most prominent names to host the show in later seasons were Javed Ali and the current host Aditya Narayan.

Sa Re Ga Ma Pa was also the launchpad for many popular playback singers and musicians including Shreya Ghoshal, music composer Kunal Ganjawala and Shekhar of Vishal-Shekhar music director duo.

As the popularity of the show started to increase, the makers expanded to include other properties under the Sa Re Ga Ma Pa umbrella including L’il Champs for kids, Ek Main Aur Ek Tu – a duet round for past contestants and even a USA challenge. They also decided to introduce it in regional languages like Tamil, Kannada, Bengali, Malayalam, Telugu, Gujarati, Marathi and Punjabi. Thus in April 2019, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Keralam was launched.
