Omerta: The Truth Of The Real Terror Events Revealed In This Film Starring Rajkummar Rao

The film starring Rajkummar Rao as the male lead revolves around the life of a terrorist Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh. Written by actor-turned-writer Mukul Dev, it is directed by Hansal Mehta. Mehta and Rao have collaborated for more films and they have turned out to be excellent pieces of cinema. But Omerta was tough for the talented and experienced duo as well. Rajkummar Rao has even revealed in one of his interviews that this is the toughest character he has ever played. So what is it that makes the film barely bearable? Let us have a look at the events that are described in the film.

1. 1994 Delhi Kidnapping

Omar Saeed Sheikh is said to be involved in the 1994 Delhi Westerners Kidnapping case and this is majorly explored in the film. In Omerta, the reference of this case is the terrorist Omar Saeed Sheikh. He kidnapped three British nationals and one American citizen. He is said to have served five years of a prison sentence for the same.

2. 9/11 Terror Attack

In 1999 an Air India plane was hijacked and Omar Saeed Sheikh along with two other terrorists was released in return of hostages. In the September 11, 2001 bombing of the USA, Omar is said to have a possible connection with the funding. He is said to have transferred a sum of 100 thousand dollars under a pseudonym.

3. 26/11 Mumbai

In the 26/11 case of Mumbai, Saeed is said to be involved in the aftermath of the terror. He is said to have called the ministry of Pakistan posing to be India’s foreign minister and threatening about war. The same way he tried to get through the US consulate and the Indian ministry. But the war was not raged and Pakistan’s hoax caller was found to be Saeed.

4. Daniel Pearl Kidnapping

This is by far one of the most widely known cases of terror. The Investigative journalist Daniel Pearl from the Wall Street Journal was in Pakistan when he was brutally murdered. The journalist was trying to find links between the Islamic militant groups and the 9/11 funding. These events in the film are explored and shown on the basis of the information available from documentaries, investigation reports, and articles.
