Omerta streaming soon on ZEE5 is Hansal Mehta and Rajkummar Rao’s third film together. The actor-director duo has mesmerised everyone before with emotional and realistic films. Rajkummar Rao is known to deliver his best. Some films like Newton, Shahid, and Citylights are in his list of lauded work. Rajkummar Rao was Hansal Mehta’s first choice to recreate the events surrounding terror tyrant Omar Saeed Sheikh’s life. In this film the real-life events including the Delhi westerners kidnapping case and the 26/11 Mumbai attacks. The film is a dark suspense thriller. The film won numerous awards but was a dud at the box office due to the controversies around it.

However, the film was appreciated by everyone including the critics. The story behind creating it and the efforts put into the production is interesting. The film director, Hansal Mehta was approached by the actor turned writer Mukul Dev. Mukul who was seen in The State Of Seige 26/11, a ZEE5 Original based on the 26/11 terror attacks, researched on the subject of his interest; Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh. He was obsessed with this story in the year 2004 and pitched the story to Hansal Mehta. Mukul Dev did his research based on investigative reports, news reports, and documentaries around the subject. the actor put a lot of hard work behind the story and the details.

The director, Hansal Mehta who had another film, Shahid, with Rajkummar Rao in the pre-production stage, was excited about Omreta and dreamt of a big premiere. He pitched the film to several producers but due to the difficult storyline of the film Omerta, Shahid was filmed before it. The film Shahid was a relatively easy project for both the director and the producers. Hansal Mehta also tried to recreate the events as best as he could.

Rajkummar Rao, who plays the terrorist also shared his experience of playing the jihadi. Rajkummar said in an interview that he was deeply disturbed when he played the role of Omar Sheikh. He also added that he had to prepare a lot and was holed up in his home watching documentaries and reading books. He was trying to imitate the terrorist.
