In an exclusive interview, this producer-turned-actress tells us about her role as Jo, an antagonist in the time travel series Bhanwar.

Karanvir Bohra and Priya Banerjee’s time travel show is the newest addition to the ZEE5 Club Pack. The unique story and an exceptional cast are the USPs of the show. But what makes it the most intriguing is that the show has been shot during the lockdown! It has been shot with limited resources, including a limited number of shoot locations and actors! Director-Producer and actor Karanvir’s wife Teejay Sidhu plays the role of an antagonist in the show. Accompanying Teejay’s character Sam is her assistant Jo. Jo is played by debutante actor Payal Sodhi. In an exclusive conversation, Payal tells us all about her role and more. Here are the excerpts from the conversation!

Watch the first episode of Bhanwar here.

1. This is the first-ever series to have been shot during the lockdown, what was the experience like?

Ans: It was amazing! Because we all knew that it was going to be difficult but we were prepared to achieve this. We worked some extra time and made sure that the quality was not compromised.

2. You were a member of the production team and were enlisted as an actor, is this correct?

Ans: That is right. I have known Karanvir, Priya, Teejay, and Mantra for years. We have worked on projects before. I have been working in the industry for a decade now. But still, it is my acting debut. Karanvir asked me to fill in for an actor who couldn’t make it and I had no escape but to agree. It was a very interesting and new feeling to act instead of being in the production team. Although for Bhanwar, I have done the best of both the worlds!

3. Now, do you prefer acting over being a part of the production?

Ans: Haha, no. I am in love with my job and my profile. That being said, if people love my work in the series and opportunities knock at the door, I would be open to acting!

4. What was it like working with Karanvir and Priya?

Ans: As I said, I have known them for long. So it was comfortable working with them. We were not working huddled together but as and when the scene required. Also, Karanvir is an exceptional director and I feel grateful to have worked with him.

5. Are there any interesting stories that occurred during the shoot?

Ans: Well, yes! Since we were shooting during the lockdown, we were all staying in the same complex. We were also taking turns holding the lights and other equipment that the crew is supposed to handle. So it was a fun and new experience that has enriched all of us.

6. Tell us more about your character?

Ans: My character was a bit end-of-the-minute decision. But I am very happy with how it turned out. Jo is Samantha’s assistant and she has a mean streak to her. I don’t know if I can divulge further!

7. Now that Bhanwar is ready to release, how are you feeling about seeing your work on screen?

Ans: OMG I am excited. I have been wracking with nervousness all the time and now I just want to see how my work has turned out. I was worried about acting but Karanvir’s direction put me at ease and now I am waiting to see the result.

8. Will you change the future if you knew what is about to happen?

Ans: No, I wouldn’t want to change anything in my past or present because my journey has been beautiful and I look forward to what the future has for me.
