Ganga was formerly identified as Pranit Hate, and even though he was born as a boy, he felt more like a girl. From the very beginning, he was fond of dressing up like a woman and felt more comfortable in his skin when he did so. In his childhood, whenever he would play with friends, they would tease him by calling him ‘bailya’ (effeminate). Everyone despised him and made fun of his sexuality. We can only imagine how difficult it would have been for a young lad like him to face such hatred and enmity.
His hardships did not stop there. At school, Pranit was restricted from using the washroom. So, he would secretly slip out from class to go to the toilet but would get followed by his classmates when he did so. This would embarrass him and soon he started hating himself for being different. Such incidents started occurring repeatedly and this affected him mentally and emotionally. But not once did he let his family know about the same as he felt that this would disturb and shatter them. However, crying over these problems was not an option for Pranit. He decided to accept himself for who he is and leave a mark in society.
He overcame all social barriers that were holding him back and rose like a phoenix. He transformed himself into Ganga and participated in various fashion shows for transgenders. Eventually, Ganga’s struggle turned out to be fruitful after she was selected to host the popular Marathi dance reality show Yuva Dancing Queen alongside Adwait Dadarkar. Today, Ganga is the flagbearer of empowerment for everyone, especially the transgender community. She is also a style icon as she gives some serious fashion goals to all her fans with her chic and adorable outfits. Go Ganga!
We think there are many transgenders in India who wish to be like Ganga. They just need our love, support and a bit of encouragement. What say?
