Apna Time Bhi Aayega

The disparity between the elite and the lower class seems hard to bridge. No matter how loyal Rani’s father, a servant at the royal house, is, they will always be deemed less important and their allegiance will go unappreciated. Apna Time Bhi Aayega shows the protagonist is adamant on rising above this class difference.

Ek Mahanayak: Dr B R Ambedkar

Hailing from a lower caste, young Bhim doesn’t understand the prejudices that the society has against him. His effort to raise his voice against Madhvi’s child marriage and widowhood is silenced as words of someone from a lower caste hold no importance or weight. His father is subjected to thrashings for his son’s boldness. Even Bhim’s intelligence and intellect at such a tender age is negated due to the caste differences widely prevalent in society.

Sindhu

Sindhu is a Marathi Tv show on ZEE5 which highlights the many societal injustices meted out towards women. Set in the pre-independence era, the story is narrated from the perception of the protagonist, Sindhu, a little girl who sees girls been forced into child marriages, deep-rooted caste discrimination and how widows are treated. Sindhu attempts to break free from the orthodox shackles of society and bring a change.

This Marathi movie shows the injustices that are meted out on the lower caste, especially Dalits. There are several scenes in the movie that show the maltreatment they have to face. A Dalit presence around a person of higher caste is met with dishonour, insult and humiliation.
