Rohit Damodaran, son-in-law of famous filmmaker Shankar booked for sexual harassment of a minor

According to recent  reports Rohit Damodaran, the son-in-law of famed Tamil movie director Shankar, has been charged with sexually harassing a 16-year-old girl under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. In this instance, Rohit is one of five people that have been arrested. Shankar, who has directed hit films such as Enthiran, Anniyan, Gentleman, and Jeans and is presently working on Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2. In June of this year, Rohit, who is the captain of a cricket club, married Shankar’s eldest daughter Aishwarya in a private ceremony in Chennai.

Damodaran, Rohit’s father, is the secretary of the cricket club and he is also identified in the victim’s October 19 complaint to the Mettupalayam police station in Puducherry. In addition to the father-son duo, the complaint also has the names of Thamarai Kannan who is a cricket instructor along with two other people named Jayakumar and Venka.

According to several media reports, the victim girl went for a cricket coaching session where she was sexually assaulted by the accused.  It was also alleged by the victim that she had reported the incident to the cricket club who tried to convince her to let it go and did not take any further action   against the accused. The victim then went on to write to the Child Welfare Committee shortly after the abovementioned  incident. The minor has also stated that the accused has threatened her with serious consequences if she took any action or filed a police report.

In her written complaint to the Child Welfare Committee, the minor victim mentioned that Thamarai Kannan allegedly groped her shoulders, back, and chest. She also claimed that the defendant had ‘blackmailed’ her parents in order to prevent them from filing a complaint. 

According to recent developments the police are on a look out for Rohit Damodaran, who is also the  owner of the Madurai Panthers cricket team, his father, and the other three accused.
