Sourav Ganguly’s cricketing journey will be immortalized in an iconic Bollywood film on the silver screen. The cricketer shared that filmmaker Luv Ranjan will produce the movie.

Sourav Ganguly posted on social media saying that cricket has been his life; it gave him the confidence and ability to walk forward with my head held high; it’s a journey to be cherished, he added. He is thrilled that Luv Films will produce a biopic on his journey and bring it to life for the big screen. Meanwhile, dada had previously expressed that he would love to see Ranbir Kapoor essaying his character in the film. The legendary cricketer was the first Indian cricketer to score a century on his debut match.

Kapil Dev

Kapil Dev and the other team members of the 1983 Indian team, which won against the mighty West Indies in a low-scoring final at Lord’s, London, on June 25, appear in the film. All of them have given their consent for their spectacular achievement to be turned into a movie. Besides Ranveer Singh, who plays ‘Kapil Dev’ in the film, other actors who have played the cricketers in the film include Ranveer’s wife, Deepika Padukone, who will play the role of Romi Dev. The film is called 83 and the shooting has been put on hold due to the pandemic.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni

The biopic idea was put forward by Dhoni’s then manager, Arun Pandey, after witnessing an incident at an airport after the 2011 Cricket World Cup Final. The film development began two years later, with the consent of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Neeraj Pandey was later approached to helm the film, while he was working on Baby. Late actor Sushant Singh Rajput played the legendary titular role and was praised for his outstanding performance. The sequel of the film was shelved forever due to the death of Sushant Singh Rajput.

Saina Nehwal

Saina Nehwal revealed the details of her biopic on her Twitter in 2017. Earlier, Shraddha Kapoor was signed to play Nehwal’s role, and she even started filming in September 2018 after training, but later she opted out of the film due to health issues and Parineeti Chopra was roped in to play the same. The Former World no.1, Saina Nehwal, deserves applause for winning many laurels for the country, including an Olympic medal.

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag

The film documents the life of Milkha Singh, aka The Flying Sikh and his incredible struggle from being an orphan to becoming one of India’s greatest athletes. The titular role is played by Farhan Akhtar, who didn’t shy away from working hard to get into the role of the legendary sprinter. The film was received well by fans and critiques. The late sprinter was the only athlete to win gold at 400 meters at the Asian Games and the Commonwealth Games. He also won gold medals in the 1958 and 1962 Asian Games.

While many await a biopic on Neeraj Chopra, the Olympic gold medalist denies giving the nod for the same, as he wants to focus on his sport and win more laurels for the country.
