FIFA World Cup 2026

Group F | Kansas City Stadium | Jun 26, 2026 | 4:30 AM IST

Match Overview

The Netherlands head into this game with four points and command of Group F, but not officially through. A heavy loss, combined with Sweden beating Japan simultaneously in Dallas, could push them out of the automatic top two. The task: win and remove all doubt. Tunisia, eliminated after two defeats and under new coach Hervé Renard, is playing for pride alone.

Netherlands — Team Analysis

The Dutch have been the most emphatic side in Group F. Brian Brobbey scored twice in the opening 17 minutes against Sweden before Cody Gakpo added a brace and Crysencio Summerville sealed 5-1. Against Japan, Virgil van Dijk headed them in front and Summerville doubled it — only for Kamada’s 89th-minute deflection to level at 2-2. Seven goals in two games. The squad is in form.

Koeman has quality throughout. Van Dijk anchors the defence alongside Micky van de Ven and Denzel Dumfries. Ryan Gravenberch controls the tempo from midfield; Frenkie de Jong adds Barcelona-level composure on the ball. Up front, Gakpo, Summerville, and Brobbey give Koeman three different ways to win a game — and all three have already scored in this group stage.

Key player: Cody Gakpo — Two goals against Sweden and a constant danger across both matches. The player Tunisia most needs to contain if they want to stay in this game.

Tunisia — Team Analysis

Hervé Renard was appointed on June 16, days after the 5-1 opening loss cost Sabri Lamouchi his job. He has won the Africa Cup of Nations with two different nations — Zambia in 2012, and the Ivory Coast in 2015. Renard was already in the dugout for the Japan match and takes charge here for just his second game with the Eagles.

The squad has quality, but the results have not shown. Ellyes Skhiri, 80-plus cap captain and Eintracht Frankfurt’s defensive anchor, is the foundation in midfield. Hannibal Mejbri, 23, brings Premier League creativity from Burnley. Rani Khedira adds Bundesliga steel. Omar Rekik scored their only World Cup goal against Sweden. Renard’s task is to get one final performance out of this group before they go home.

Key player: Hannibal Mejbri — Tunisia’s most creative player and their best chance of causing the Netherlands problems. If he gets space to drive forward, he can make the Dutch uncomfortable.

Head-to-Head

Tunisia and the Netherlands have never met at a World Cup. The Netherlands have been the dominant team in Group F; Tunisia have conceded nine and scored just once. The form gap is real. But Tunisia have individual quality, and Renard is a coach who has extracted responses from squads in far worse positions than this one.

Tactical Preview

The Netherlands will look to settle the game early. Against Sweden, Brobbey had two goals before the 20th minute, and the contest was over. Koeman’s side thrives when they score first — possession tightens, the spaces open up for Gakpo and Summerville. Tunisia need to stay compact in the opening period and avoid giving the Netherlands a fast start.

Renard may push Tunisia to be more offensive with nothing to lose — at least it gives supporters something to watch. But committing players forward against Gakpo, Summerville, and Brobbey on the counter is dangerous. The more likely approach: a deep defensive shape, waiting for a moment to strike on the break.

Key Storylines

  • The Netherlands leads Group F on goal difference over Japan and needs a win to lock in top spot. If Japan beats Sweden and the Netherlands draw, Japan could jump above them. Koeman won’t want to leave it to that. A comfortable win also confirms their seeding going into the knockouts — strong motivation to go after this from the first whistle.
  • Tunisia have conceded nine goals in two matches and has never reached a World Cup knockout stage. Skhiri has already apologised publicly to supporters. This match is their only chance to leave something worth remembering — a goal, a real performance at the FIFA World Cup 2026™. Against the Dutch, that is a tall order. But it is all that is left.

Our Prediction

The Netherlands should win this comfortably. Koeman has attacking depth that Tunisia will struggle to contain for 90 minutes, and with top spot on the line, the Dutch will go after this from the off. Tunisia’s best hope is a disciplined first half and one moment of quality from Mejbri or Skhiri.
