Four matches. Four stories. The United States joined Mexico in booking their place in the Round of 32. Morocco held off a spirited Scotland fightback to secure a crucial three points. Brazil found their rhythm with a three-goal first-half blitz. And Paraguay, reduced to 10 men before half-time, survived a relentless Turkish siege to send Türkiye crashing out of FIFA World Cup 2026™. Here is everything that happened on June 20.
USA 2–0 Australia | Group D
The United States made light of Christian Pulisic’s absence, defeating Australia 2–0 in Seattle to qualify for the Round of 32 with a game to spare. Mauricio Pochettino’s side pressed with intensity from the first whistle and never truly allowed Australia to settle.
Folarin Balogun’s driving run and low cross produced an own goal from Cameron Burgess in the 11th minute. Just before half-time, Sergiño Dest’s long-range effort deflected into the path of Alex Freeman, who headed home — a VAR review overturning the initial offside flag to confirm the goal. Australia pushed in the second half but found no way through a composed American backline. Balogun came close to a third, his opportunity blocked by Alessandro Circati.

Morocco 1–0 Scotland | Group C
Morocco recorded the fastest goal seen at FIFA World Cup 2026™ up to that point in the evening — Ismael Saibari striking inside 70 seconds in Boston, assisted by the brilliant Brahim Díaz. The Atlas Lions dominated the first half and fashioned several further opportunities: Saibari rattled the crossbar with a deflected effort, Achraf Hakimi was denied by a fine Angus Gunn reflex block in the 19th minute, and Bilal El Khannouss squandered a close-range chance.
Scotland improved substantially after the interval and pushed hard for an equaliser in the final 30 minutes. Ryan Christie missed the best chance, and Scott McTominay’s penalty appeals were dismissed by the referee. Yassine Bounou was composed throughout, and Morocco held firm for a clean sheet.

Brazil 3–0 Haiti | Group C
Brazil answered their critics with a commanding 3–0 win over Haiti in Philadelphia, all three goals arriving before the break. Raphinha had an effort ruled out for offside in the 12th minute before hobbling off with a hamstring injury in the 40th — a concern for Brazil’s medical staff heading into the knockout phase.
Matheus Cunha was the night’s standout player, poking home a Vinícius Júnior rebound in the 23rd minute and adding a stunning left-footed top-corner finish in the 36th. Vinícius himself completed the scoring in first-half stoppage time, rounding the goalkeeper after a sublime chip from Lucas Paquetá picked out his run in behind. The second half was quieter — Endrick made his highly anticipated World Cup debut in the 63rd minute and had a goal disallowed for offside — before Alisson Becker twice denied Haiti deep in the second half to keep the clean sheet intact.
Brazil climb to the top of Group C on four points, level with Morocco in points but ahead on goal difference. They face Scotland in Matchday 3 at the Miami Stadium on June 25 (3:30 AM IST) while Morocco face Haiti at the Atlanta Stadium at the same time.

Paraguay 1–0 Türkiye | Group D
The match of the day. Matías Galarza struck just 64 seconds into the game at Levi’s Stadium in the San Francisco Bay Area — a low rocket from 25 metres that became the fastest goal in FIFA World Cup 2026™ history, eclipsing Saibari’s record from earlier that same evening. But the real drama was only just beginning.
Miguel Almirón was shown a straight red card in the third minute of first-half stoppage time, becoming the first player ever dismissed under a new IFAB rule prohibiting players from covering their mouths during confrontations. Paraguay would face the entire second half with 10 men. Türkiye threw everything at them: 78% possession, 33 shot attempts, a Mert Müldür header that struck both the crossbar and the post, and a Deniz Gül miss from an open net in the 88th minute that will define their World Cup exit. The Paraguay goalkeeper Orlando Gill made five crucial saves. In stoppage time, Merih Demiral headed wide from a corner and sank to the turf. Türkiye are out of the FIFA World Cup 2026™.
