If Day 3 of the FIFA World Cup 2026™ taught us anything, it is this: no result is safe until the final whistle, no team is unbeatable, and no goalkeeper can win you a match on their own — unless their name is Patrick Beach.

Four matches were played across the early IST hours of June 14. Two ended level. Two produced comfortable winning margins. All four delivered moments that will be talked about long after this group stage is done.

Qatar 1–1 Switzerland | Group B | 12:30 AM IST

The night began with what looked like a routine Swiss victory in the making. Breel Embolo converted a 17th-minute penalty after a clumsy foul by Qatar goalkeeper Mahmud Abunada, and Switzerland — controlling 70% of the ball and generating 27 shots — seemed firmly in control.

And then, in the 90th minute plus four, Boualem Khoukhi happened. Qatar’s captain and centre-back rose to meet a Homam Ahmed cross and planted a towering header past the Swiss keeper. 1–1. Qatar’s first-ever FIFA World Cup point, earned with the last meaningful action of the game. Remarkable.

Brazil 1–1 Morocco | Group C | 3:30 AM IST

Morocco arrived at MetLife Stadium to face the five-time champions and refused to be intimidated. Ismael Saibari chipped a stunner over Alisson Becker in the 21st minute — a finish of remarkable composure — and the Atlas Lions defended their lead with real conviction.

It took a Vinícius Júnior moment of individual genius to restore parity. Receiving from Bruno Guimarães, Vini Jr. cut inside and curled the ball into the roof of the net in the 32nd minute. The second half belonged to Morocco. Their low defensive block was impenetrable, Yassine Bounou made crucial late saves, and they held on for a point that felt like a victory. Brazil will have serious questions to answer.

Scotland 1–0 Haiti | Group C | 6:30 AM IST

Thirty-six years of waiting. One deflected John McGinn goal. That is all it took for Scotland to claim their first FIFA World Cup win since Italia 1990.

Haiti were not poor — they outshot Scotland 8–7 in the first half, created genuine chances, and came agonisingly close to an equaliser in the 85th minute when Frantzdy Pierrot’s point-blank header brushed the post. But Steve Clarke’s side held firm. Goalkeeper Angus Gunn was excellent in the second half, and Scotland’s tactical discipline in the closing stages was exactly what was needed. Three points. A historic win. Scotland top Group C.

Australia 2–0 Türkiye | Group D | 9:30 AM IST

The story of this match was not Australia’s goals — though both were excellent. It was Patrick Beach, the Australian goalkeeper, who reduced a partisan Türkiye attack to something resembling impotence.

Türkiye had 63% possession and 28 shots. Beach made 8 saves, many of them spectacular, denying Çalhanoğlu and Güler repeatedly. Australia scored twice on the counter — Nestory Irankunda in the 26th minute and Connor Metcalfe in the 74th — and won at a canter. Türkiye will be wondering how they left Vancouver with nothing. Australia will be wondering how good this team can actually be.

Still to come: Germany vs Curaçao | Group E | 10:30 PM IST

The day is not over yet. Germany take on Curaçao at NRG Stadium in Houston at 10:30 PM IST — the final match of June 14. The four-time World Cup winners will be expected to dominate, but after the upsets and drama that have already defined Day 3, nothing can be taken for granted at this FIFA World Cup 2026™.
