Ramayan narrates the life of Ram, the eldest of four sons and heir to King Dasharatha and Queen Kaushalya. After Rams marriage to Sita, Rams stepmother, Kaikeyi forces Ram to exile to the forest for 14 years, so that her son Bharat can be crowned as a king. Ram proceeds on his exile in the company of his wife Sita and brother, Lakshman. In the last year of the exile, Ravan abducts Sita. But, Ram battles Ravan and kills him. On his return from the exile, he is crowned the king of Ayodhya.
Episodes 1 - 10
Episode 1
In order to stop Raavan, Lord Vishnu descends on earth in a form of King Dasarath and Queen Kausalya's son. King Dasarath praises Queen Kaikeyi for saving his life. He promises that he would fulfil any two wishes that Queen Kaikeyi makes.
Episode 2
During the naming ceremony, Gurudev names Kausalya's son as Ram, Kaikeyi's son as Bharat and Sumitra's sons as Laxman and Shatrugna. The gods decide to ascend on the earth and visit Lord Ram. They disguise as hermits and arrive at the palace. Queen Kausalya, Kaikeyi and Sumitra become emotional when Ram,Laxman, Bharath and Shatrugna leave along with Gurudev Vashist to the Gurukul.
Episode 3
Kausalya stops Kaikeyi from going to the Gurukul. She states Kaikeyi that they need to stay away from the princes as their education is important. She assures Kaikeyi that Gurumata would take care of Ram and his brothers. At Gurukul, Gurudev Vashist teaches various forms of arts to Ram, Bharat, Laxman, Shatrugna and other students.Queen Kausalya, Kaikeyi and Sumitra get elated when King Dasarath informs them that Gurudev Vasisth has completed training the princes and so Ram and his brother would be returning to Ayodya.
Episode 4
Ramayan is a timeless classic based on Valmiki's ancient epic and Tulsidas' Ramcharitmanas. The show, like the religious epic it is based on, explores the subtleties of the delicate relationships within one's family, portraying model characters like the ideal father, king, servant, brother and wife.
Episode 5
Sage Visvamitra takes Ram and Laxman with him to the ashram where the demon, Tarka was not letting the sage to worship and mediate. On the way to the ashram, the trio come across a dense forest. When they enter the forest, Tarka tries to kill them. Ram kills Tarka. Tarka's sons Mareech and Subahu try to kill Ram and Laxman. Ram kills Subahu with a weapon given to him by Sage Visvamitra. He also shoots an arrow at Mareech and kills him. Mantra tries to instigate Kaikeyi against Ram but fails. Sage Visvamitra asks Ram and Laxman to come along with him to Mithila where King Janak had organised a swayamvar for his daughter, Sita.
Episode 6
Sage Vishwamitra tells prince Ram and Laxman about the legend behind Shiv Dhanush. He also tells the princes that King Janak had decided that whosoever is able to lift the Shiv Dhanush would be the perfect groom for his daughter, Sita. Sage Vishwamitra takes Ram and Laxman to an abandoned ashram. He tells Ram about Ahilya, who was turned into a statue by Sage Gautam. He states Ahilya was waiting for Ram to set her free. With his miraculous powers, Ram touches the statue. Ahilya praises Ram and descends into heaven. Sage Vishwamitra, Ram and Laxman continue their journey and arrive at Mithila. Sage Vishwamitra introduces Ram and Laxman as King Dasarath's sons. He states that he took Ram and Laxman with him to protect his ashram from the demons. King Janak gets mesmerized to see the aura on Ram's face. He wishes to get Ram married to Sita, however cannot as he had vowed to get Sita married to the person, who lifts the Shiv Dhanush. Sita's friend wants Sita to meet Ram and Laxman. Sita refuses to go as King Janak had organised her swayamvar. The next day, Sita inadvertently happens to see Ram in the garden.
