About the Movie Shanghai: The Perfect Political Thriller

Shanghai is a political thriller movie featuring Abhay Deol, Emraan Hashmi, Kalki Koechlin, Farrukh Shaikh, and several other prominent actors. The story revolves around the death of a political activist cum academic, Dr. Ahmedi, who was critical of the current government. The plot of Shanghai movie

The story begins with a fictional utopian city called Bharat Nagar, which is about to undergo infrastructural change as the government is trying to realise a project called the International Business Park, or IBP. The government believes it will transform the city into a busy metropolis like Shanghai. Dr. Ahmedi, a scholar and social activist, is scheduled to visit Bharat Nagar to deliver a speech. In his book, he criticises the local political party called Morcha, which favours this project without thinking about the poorer sections of society, as this project would deprive them of their homes. One of Dr. Ahmedi's students also gathers a crowd to stage a protest against this move by the government. As a big shock, Dr. Ahemedi gets run over by a local truck driver after delivering his speech in Bharat Nagar. The government appoints an investigating officer for this case. A video maker and a helpless girl team up to expose the culprits.

The Shanghai cast comprises Prosenjit Chatterji as Dr Ahmedi, Abhay Deol as the investigating IAS officer T. A. Krishnan, Kalki Koechlin as Shalini Sahay, Emraan Hashmi as Joginder alias Jogi, the associate photographer, Supriya Pathak as chief minister, Farrukh Shaikh as Kaul, her secretary. This Hindi political drama was directed by Dibakar Banerjee. Shanghai’s director Dibakar Banerjee has also written part of the screenplay for this movie along with Urmi Juvekar. He is also one of the co-producers of this movie with Ajay Bijli, Sanjeev K. Bijli, and Priya Sreedharan.
