Sairat
Sairat is a 2016 Marathi romantic drama film starring Rinku Rajguru and Akash Thosar. Directed by National Award-winning director Nagraj Manjule, it is the first Marathi film to gross over 100 crores worldwide at the box office. The story is set in the interiors of Maharashtra where Archi, a local politician’s daughter, and Parshya, a fisherman’s son, fall in love resulting in violence between the families due to the stringent casteism in the village.
Banjo
Banjo is a 2016 Hindi musical film starring Riteish Deshmukh, Nargis Fakhri and Dharmesh Yelande. With this film, noted Marathi film director, Ravi Jadhav, forays into Hindi cinema as director. Banjo is the story of a Taraat, a Banjo player, and his band of four friends. When Christina comes to Mumbai in search of a Banjo player she meets Taraat but he doesn’t reveal that he is a Banjo player. Taraat falls in love with Christina and finally one day she discovers that Taraat is the Banjo player that she was looking for.
Lai Bhaari
Lai Bhaari is a 2014 Marathi action drama film starring Riteish Deshmukh, Radhika Apte and Tanvi Azmi. This film, which marks the debut of Riteish Deshmukh in the Marathi film industry, was the highest grossing Marathi film of the year. The story revolves around Sumitra, a childless woman, who becomes a mother after praying to Lord Vithoba in Pandharpur. Years later, after the death of her son Prince, she returns to Pandharpur and finds Mauli, a look-alike of Prince.
