Six matches on June 25. Three time slots. Records tumbling everywhere. Mexico completed the first perfect group stage in their World Cup history at the very stadium they call home. Canada and South Africa stepped into the knockout rounds for the first time ever. Morocco survived Haiti’s extraordinary resistance in Atlanta. Brazil stayed ruthless in Miami. And through all of it, Guillermo Ochoa ran onto the pitch at the Estadio Azteca at 40 years old and received the kind of ovation that says something bigger than football. It was that sort of day.

Mexico 3-0 Czechia | Estadio Azteca, Mexico City | 6:30 AM IST
The headline of the day. Mexico finished Group A with nine points — three wins, nine goals, zero conceded — and did it on home soil. They had never done this before. Three wins from three in a World Cup group stage, and they did it with a 17-year-old (Gilberto Mora, youngest ever to start a World Cup match for El Tri) setting up a goal and a 40-year-old (Memo Ochoa, oldest North American to feature at any World Cup) walking on as a substitute in the 78th minute to the most emotional reception you will hear all tournament.
Czechia managed a tight first half, Denis Višinský going closest, but the second half belonged entirely to Mexico. Mateo Chávez opened the scoring at 55 minutes — a first international goal, a low drive into the bottom-left corner after Luis Romo had turned past three men at midfield. Julián Quiñones added the second six minutes later after the Czech goalkeeper could only parry. Álvaro Fidalgo curled home a third in stoppage time. Czechia, eliminated. Mexico, perfect.

South Africa 1-0 South Korea | Estadio BBVA, Monterrey | 6:30 AM IST
The other result from 6:30 AM IST was quieter but no less significant. South Africa is in the Round of 32 for the first time in their World Cup history. They had the tournament in their own backyard in 2010 and went out in the group stage. On June 25, in Monterrey, they went further than any Bafana Bafana team has ever gone.
South Korea dominated early, had a Min-Jae Kim header cleared off the line inside two minutes, and brought Heung-Min Son on at half-time as part of a triple substitution. Ronwen Williams — in the form of his life — saved everything they sent at him, including a magnificent flying save from Park Jin-seob in the 93rd minute. Between those saves, 22-year-old substitute Thapelo Maseko controlled Tshepang Moremi’s cross and drove a low left-footed shot into the near corner in the 63rd minute. One goal. That was all it took.

Morocco 4-2 Haiti | Atlanta Stadium | 3:30 AM IST
Nobody told Haiti they were out. They led twice, scored their first World Cup goal since 1974, and produced a Wilson Isidor thunderbolt into the top corner that is already competing for goal of the tournament — all while already eliminated from the competition.
Lenny Joseph’s pressure forced a Yassine Bounou own goal in the 10th minute to make Haitian football history. Johny Placide then produced a double save of the highest order to keep them in front until the 39th minute, when Achraf Hakimi reacted fastest to level. Isidor’s rocket made it 2-1 in Haiti’s favour. Ismael Saibari’s side-foot from a Hakimi cut-back levelled it back at half-time. Soufiane Rahimi put Morocco ahead at 78 minutes, and Gessime Yassine sealed it late. Morocco, second in Group C, is through.

Brazil 3-0 Scotland | Miami Stadium | 3:30 AM IST
Brazil kept marching. Vinícius Júnior scored twice — in the 7th minute, stoppage time of the first half — and Matheus Cunha added a third midway through the second half to send the Seleção into the knockouts with seven points at the top of Group C. Scotland gave everything, but the gap in quality was visible from the opening exchanges.
The moment that will be replayed the most happened in the 76th minute: Neymar came on as a substitute, his return from injury confirmed, and the Miami Stadium erupted. Brazil are top of Group C. They are coming.

Bosnia-Herzegovina 3-1 Qatar | Lumen Field, Seattle | 12:30 AM IST
Edin Džeko marked his 150th cap in a match Bosnia won comfortably. Amer Alajbegović opened the scoring at 29 minutes, a Qatar own goal made it 2-0 at 34, and though Al-Haydos pulled one back for the hosts at 42 minutes to give Qatar some hope, Mahmić’s 80th-minute strike settled it definitively. Bosnia are through. Qatar are out.
Džeko’s milestone was the story inside the story. At 150 caps, the veteran forward has carried Bosnian football on his shoulders across generations.
