Banarasi Thug movie starts with Shyam, a dutiful son of an older woman (Lalita Pawar). As he comes of age, his mother asks him to meet the girl of her choice and marry her. He reluctantly agrees and has to go out of the city to meet her.
On his journey to the girl's place by train, he is conned by a group of local con men who steal his wallet and leave him stranded penniless.
He has no choice but to wander around in a small unknown village and ask for help from an older man. While he thinks the kind man is on his way to help him, he realizes a little late that he is imprisoned in his house till he agrees to marry his young daughter.
This leaves him in a dilemma as his mother has asked him to marry a girl of her choice. On the other hand, he is asked to marry the young daughter of the man who has imprisoned him if he wishes to escape.
