ABCD- A Comical Yet Dramatic Telugu Movie

ABCD: American Born Confused Desi is a comedy Telugu film that carries a comical approach with dramatic incidents and a simplistic storyline. It is the Telugu remake of 2013's Malayalam movie of the same name.

The ABCD director Sanjeev Reddy allowed Allu Sirish to encash through this movie by offering him the protagonist role, which did turn out to be a decent decision. The film has a moral sense and is coated with many comedy dialogues and dramatic situations.

ABCD Movie Basic Details

The movie targets various audiences who would appreciate frequent punchlines and sarcastic puns about 'desi girls,' the Indian economy, and South Indian cuisine. The pillars of the ABCD cast include Allu Sirish (as Aravind or Avi), Nagendra Babu (as Aravind's dad), Rukshar Dhillon (as Neha), and Master Bharath (as Bala Shanmugam or Basha), Vennela Kishore (as Kishore) along with others. The story writer of this comedy movie is Sooraj-Neeraj, and the cinematographer is Raam. Navin Nooli did the script editorial. The Telugu drama film is available on Zee5 to watch anytime you want.

The "Not-so-complex" Plot of ABCD

The movie plot recites the life of Aravind, aka Avi (played by Allu Sirish), who is the spoiled rich lad of a USA-based Indian billionaire. The story unfolds with the introduction of Nagendra Babu (Avi's dad) luring his son and his cousin buddy Basha (played by Master Bharath) for a vacation to India. Avi and Basha knew little about Aravind's father's plan to teach the kids a lesson about respecting money and understanding the hardships required to earn it.

As Avi and Basha arrive in India, they realize that their credit cards had been frozen when they tried to pay for the hotel they came in. In a failed attempt to run away from the hotel without paying, the hotel manager caught the pair red-handed, and they were forcibly made to pay the expenses. The hotel manager snatched their Visa and said they could get their Visa back once they pay-up for the expenses they incurred.

When things were starting to look topsy-turvey for Avi and Basha, Avi's father arranged a poor and basic accommodation for them. Then started the failed attempts of Avi and Basha to earn a few bucks by forgery and billing conspiracies (which failed miserably too). Later, Avi decides to start college to complete his MBA, as ordered by his father.

And then Neha (played by Rukshar Dhillon) enters the scenario, the love interest of Avi, who was also a batchmate of Avi and Basha. The story expands until Avi is elected for the Mr. Fame award, which has prize money of INR 500,000. This gave Avi a glimpse of hope for returning to his home in America.

The movie's plot thickens when Avi and Basha decide to participate in a riot to gain fame and popularity. However, the riot was protested by lathi charges and violence triggered by another Mr. Fame contestant, Bhargav (played by Raja Chembolu). Within this situation, Avi understands the pain and problems of poverty and thus starts sympathizing with the protestants, making him change his ideology.

The movie ends with Avi reflecting upon his deeds and winning the Mr. Fame award when he decides to stay in India while completing his MBA. Sanjeev Reddy's ABCD brought in some meaningful messages, transforming a rich and spoilt brat into a better human.

ABCD Cast Performance

ABCD's cast had done a good job executing the characters that were assigned to them. As Avi's dad, Nagendra Babu did a good job imitating a worried yet strong-hearted dad who wants the betterment of his child. Allu Sirish could fluently pull off the 'rich and spoilt brat' image while being bold and daunting in tough situations throughout the movie. The chemistry between Allu Sirish and Rukshar Dhillon was a combination of sugar and spice and therefore enhanced the romantic appeal of the film as well. Rukshar was able to fulfill the role of a witty and lovable Neha. We could also see Vennela Kishore in a side role as a funny news anchor who could tickle the audience with his goofy-yet-sarcastic body language and jokes. In the position of a newscaster, Vennela Kishore was hilarious.
