Parveen Babi was born on 4 April 1954 in Junagadh, Saurashtra (now in Gujarat). She was the only child in a noble Junagadh-based family who belonged to the Babi tribe of Pashtuns known as the Pathans of Gujarat that had long settled in Gujarat.
