CESL launches biggest ever tender worth Rs 5500 cr for 5580 electric buses

New Delhi Jan 20 PTI State-run Convergence Energy Services Ltd CESL on Thursday launched the biggest ever tender worth about Rs 5500 crore to procure as many as 5580 electric buses including 130 double deckers CESL a wholly-owned subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Services Limited EESL on Thursday announced the floating of a request for proposals for the biggest ever demand for electric buses under the Grand Challenge -- a set of homogenized demand for electric buses aggregated across five major cities according to a statement It said the tender value is estimated to be Rs 5500 crore The cities to be covered under this Grand Challenge are Bangalore Delhi Surat Hyderabad and Kolkata in the first phase The first lot of e-buses are expected to hit the roads by July this year it added Through this Grand Challenge CESL aims to deploy 5450 single decker buses and 130 double decker buses This Grand Challenge Tender represents efforts by so many people STUs OEMs financiers Niti Aayog DHI and of course my colleagues This is the biggest ever scheme in the world and is based on an innovative asset-light model that makes it possible for STUs to deploy affordably and at scale Mahua Acharya MD CEO CESL said CESL intends to enhance its support to state governments in achieving their electric mobility targets as well as further build an infrastructure for electric mobility in the country Standardizing tendering conditions in diverse cities is a big step towards the transformation of public transport in India Participation in the Grand Challenge is a commendable effort from STUs who I am sure will stand to gain from economies of scale through the aggregation of demand by CESL Amitabh Kant CEO NITI Aayog said This is seen as a big step in the series of initiatives to fulfill the commitments made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for making India a Net Zero nation by 2050 and getting closer to achieving Energy Independence by 2047 the statement said I am pleased to announce today that Delhi has requested 1500 buses under the Grand Challenge and stands ready to offer state subsidies where they are required We are aggressively pursuing electric mobility and I commend CESL for its efforts to standardize the terms and conditions for how this is delivered Kailash Gahlot Transport Environment Minister of Delhi said The benefits of participating in the Grand Challenge include lower prices realized due to aggregate demand high quality benchmarked technology access to FAME-II incentives access to state incentives air quality improvement and access to domestic and international sources of finances Keeping in mind the changing environment where climate change related issues and energy independence have turned the focus on EVs CESL will later be expanding support to more cities PTI KKS DRR

Surat Jan 18 PTI A woman was charred to death while a man received severe burn injuries after the private luxury bus in which they were travelling caught fire and exploded in Gujarats Surat city on Tuesday night said officialsThe incident took place in the Varachha area of the cityPrimary investigations revealed there were around 15 passengers in the bus when it caught fire which spread quickly in the vehicle said Chief Fire Officer of Surat Basant PareekWhile all other passengers managed to alight in time a woman and a man got stuck in the burning bus While the woman was charred to death the man who suffered severe burn injuries was somehow pulled out of the bus by some people said PareekAccording to locals there were very few passengers in the bus when it started its journey towards Bhavnagar from the Katargam areaWhen it reached Hirabaug Circle at around 930 pm to take more passengers the bus was engulfed in flames after a sudden spark followed by a blast said PareekWe believe a spark in the engine area started the blaze The fire spread after it caused an explosion in the AC compressor of the vehicle Due to presence of foam and other synthetic materials in the bus the fire spread very quickly the officer said PTI COR PJT RSY RSY

Ahmedabad Jan 18 PTI Gujarat on Tuesday recorded 17119 new coronavirus infections its highest single-day tally so far which took the caseload to 956112 while 10 patients succumbed to the infection the health department saidThe states previous one-day high was 14605 cases recorded on April 30 last year before dropping to a single-digit eight on September 19The number of COVID-19 cases surged to 17119 from 12753 on Monday a rise of 4366Also 7883 patients were discharged during the day which pushed the number of recovered cases to 866338 as per a health department releaseWith this the states tally of active cases rose sharply to 79600 with the condition of 113 patients being critical it saidGujarat also reported a sharp rise in deaths with 10 patients succumbing in the last 24 hours raising the total fatalities to 10174 the release saidOn Monday the state had reported five deaths linked to the infectionSurat district reported five new fatalities followed by Ahmedabad three Bhavnagar and Valsad one eachFour districts - Ahmedabad Surat Vadodara and Rajkot - alone contributed 77 per cent of the total new casesAhmedabad district reported the highest number of 6078 new cases followed by Surat 3986 Vadodara 1670 and Rajkot 1461 the release saidThe states rate of recovery has fallen to 9061 per centA total of 317 lakh people received their vaccine shots against COVID-19 on Tuesday taking the number of doses administered so far in the state to 953 crore the department saidAs many as 57420 people in the age group of 15-18 years received their doses along with 67229 beneficiaries who qualified for the precaution or booster shotGujarat recorded a positivity rate of 134 per cent a day ago as per the test figures uploaded on the department dashboard on TuesdayThe rate indicates the percentage of people who test positive for the virus of those overall who have been testedThe Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli Daman and Diu reported 36 new COVID-19 cases and 26 recoveries in the last 24 hours officials saidWith this the tally of confirmed cases increased to 11050 while recoveries shot up to 10816 they saidThere are currently 230 active cases in the UT which has reported four COVID-19 fatalities so far the officials saidGujarats COVID-19 figures are as follows Positive cases 956112 new cases 17119 death toll 10174 discharged 866338 active cases 79600 people tested so far - figures not released PTI KA PD KRK RSY RSY
