Will The Indian Government Create A Law Against Fake News?

According to the reports, several migrants lost their lives after falling trap to deceiving news during the lockdown.

Currently, India is facing several problems like the crash of GDP (Gross Domestic Product), COVID-19 pandemic, unemployment etc, but what adds more fuel to fire is the continuously circulating fake news. Fake news in India has caused dangerous riots, protests and a huge loss to life and property in the past and still, the situation has not changed. During the lockdown, a huge number of migrants took to the streets because of fake news. According to the reports, several migrants lost their lives after falling trap to deceiving information. Many local authorities and activists urged the government to create stringent laws against fake news, however no action has been taken so far.

Sources also state that social media plays a significant role in spreading fake news and creating unnecessary controversies and so necessary restrictions should be imposed in order to curb the spread and avoid confusion amongst people.
