Watch: This Is What JRD Tata Had To Say About Jawaharlal Nehru
Ace businessman disagreed with economic policies of former PM.
Jehangir Ratanji Dadabhoy Tata or JRD Tata as he was fondly called, is known for having founded several industries under the Tata Group, including Tata Consultancy Services, Tata Motors, Titan Industries, Tata Salt, Voltas and Air India. Born in 1929, he was the first licensed pilot of India. Along his entrepreneurial journey, there were several instances in which he had interactions with India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru and an old interview that has just resurfaced shows that the two disagreed on the Indian Government’s economic policies a lot.
In the interview, JRD has said that if Vallabhbhai Patel were the older man and Nehru was the younger man, the former would have become the Prime Minister of India. This, according to him, would have meant a totally different economic plan for India. He also said that when Nehru would invite him to his place for a meal, he would be uninterested in any conversation about economics, nationalization, bureaucracy and more.
