US Department of Transportation Bans PIA Over Fake Licenses Issue
The US imposed a ban on Pakistan International Airlines after finding out that the pilots were carrying fake licenses.
The US Department of Transportation has banned all the flights of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) with immediate effect. It said it has revoked permission for PIA to conduct chartered flights to the United States, citing Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) concerns over Pakistani pilot certifications. American officials had raised concerns over Pakistani pilots’ certifications and also highlighted how PIA violated the FAA norms.
According to sources, 262 out of 860 PIA pilots did not have a proper license. In June, EU nations, United Arab Emirates, and Vietnam had suspended the airline for six months over the same issue and had demanded that President Imran Khan verify the licenses of the rest of the pilots in the country. PIA refused to comment over this issue and is yet to issue a public verification order for the licenses. However, the airline is reportedly probing this issue.
