Bakkhali

1/5

Hectic work schedules often leave our favourite actors with no time for long vacations. So it’s only natural that they take off to nearby places for short holidays in order to unwind. Like latest Bengali TV serial Nakshi Kantha’s Shabnam aka Manali Dey, who took off for Shantiniketan to unwind. If you also don’t have enough time in hand for a lengthy trip, these pretty places in Bengal are where you can head to unwind. We drew up a list of five.

From beautiful beaches to temples and crocodile farms, Bakkhali is a pretty beach town in West Bengal. Apart from walking on the beach and watching the sun rise and set, you can go to nearby places like Henry’s Island, Jambu Dweep, Fraserganj, Crocodile breeding Centre and Bishalkashmi Temple.

Murshidabad

2/5

Once the seat of power of Bengal from where emperors ruled, Murshidabad is steeped in history. From the stunning Hajarduari Palace which has a thousand doors and not to mention the architecture, to Imambara and Motijheel, Murshidabad is a great place to visit if you are a history-buff.

Tajpur

3/5

If you like beaches, this beach town near Mandarmani is fast becoming a popular destination, though it is still not so crowded. On the shore on Bay of Bengal, Tajpur boasts of a clean beach which turns red with hundreds of small red crabs crawling along it. The beach is inverted crimson and surrounded by dense eucalyptus and casuarina trees.

Bishnupur

4/5

Famous for its terracotta temples, Bishnupur is a small town in West Bengal. Architecture, music and handicraft – they will all make your trip memorable. Rasmancha temple, Jorbangla temple and Shyamrai temple are some of the must visits. Don’t forget to pick up a Baluchari saree on your way back.

Garh Panchkot

5/5

A fort that was ruined in attacks by the Marathas, a moat that surrounds it, Panchet Dam, Maithon Dam and Jaichandi Pahar – in a nutshell, that is Garh Panchot in Purulia for you. The fort is situated at the foothills of the Panchet Hill and was made using natural and man-made resources. It will transport you back in a different time altogether.
