Who says it’s not travel if you aren’t travelling abroad or to some expensive place far away? The states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have so many beautiful locations in and around them. Take inspiration from Duvvada Jagannatham actor Pooja Hegde who recently had a great time in Mangalore. Why don’t you follow her lead? We’ve put together a list of places where you can go for a vacation without burning a hole in your pocket and yet end up having an awesome holiday.

Mangalore. Because, why not? This port city, nestled between the Arabian Sea and the Western Ghats, has beautiful beaches and temples and is great for a quick getaway. Go check out the Mangaladevi temples, Panambur beach, Tannirbavi beach and Someshwara beach among others. There’s also St Aloysius Chapel with its grand architecture and the beautiful Kudroli Gokarnath temple complex dedicated to Lord Shiva. Don’t forget to catch a performance of the local folk dance, Yaksha Gana.

Vishakhapatnam

You can go to Vizag just to take a stroll along Ramakrishna beach or the beautiful Rishikonda beach. Or go drive up Kailasagiri Hill which has a temple on top of it. You can also take a ropeway to reach the top of the mountain. That apart, the Submarine Museum, housed in an actual submarine, and the lighthouse are fun places to explore too. From Vizag, you can also go to Araku Valley and visit the Borra Caves.

Hampi

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Hampi in Karnataka houses the beautiful ruins of the once glorious Vijayanagara empire. The complex has several temples like the Virupaksha temple which are known for their architecture and intricate carvings depicting Vedic mythology. The river Tungabhadra flows right next to the temple. You can also try rock climbing at Hampi.

Lonavla

One of the best hill stations of Maharashtra nestled among the Western Ghats, Lonavla is known for its scenic beauty especially during monsoon. Lush greenery, waterfalls, treks and more await you at this hill station in the Sahyadri ranges. There are also caves like Karla and Bhaja that you can explore. The twin hill station of Khandala is also equally breath-taking at this time of the year.

Pattadakal

5/5

Located on the banks of the Malaprabha river, Pattadakal in Karnataka is a World Heritage site. This is a great place if you are fond of ancient history and architectural marvels of India from back in the day. Gaze in wonder at the monuments and temples built by the Chalukya kingdom. The Virupaksha temple is the largest and is full of intricately-carved sculpture.
